Finally started the Lord of The Rings trilogy/The Hobbit. Should I study the map to gain more insight? Also do I need to learn the “language” or is that not necessary?

Hi Madison. I think you can read the book without study the map or whatever. Anyway, I recommend you this interesting book, to guide you in the Tolkien's real worlds that inspire his opera: The Worlds of J. R. R. Tolkien: The Places that Inspired Middle-earth, by John Garth.
