Jack (jack_wool) | 764 comments Just starting the profile thread for our June 2025 Group Read author. I will fill this out in the near future.

Akutagawa Prize-winning author Ichikawa Sao announces her first award-winning work, Ophelia No. 23, in the May 2024 issue of Bungakukai.
After winning the 169th Akutagawa Prize, "Hunchback" became a huge hit, with a total of 230,000 copies in circulation (as of April 2024).
One year after Ichikawa's debut with the Bungakukai Newcomer Award, Saou Ickoikawa first work (after that) was released to the world as "Ophelia No. 23."
(Jack’s note: release in 2024 but not translated from japanese yet…)

Pls feel free to add author comments, thoughts, and links you. Find interesting below.

THE GLOBAL PROFILE
An Undaunted Writer Who Broke an Invisible Barrier in Japan
Saou Ichikawa is the country’s first severely disabled author to win a top literary prize. Her novel “Hunchback” is an angry cry against “ableist machismo.”
