Robin P | 5757 comments This book got 5 stars from me not because of great literary merit, depth of character, or original plot. It was just So Much Fun! If you ever thought Pirates of the Caribbean was amusing but needed more "camp", more humor, more ghosts, and a LOT more sex and swearing, you'll enjoy this too.

Our hero is Avra, an irrepressible, insatiable, mendacious, promiscuous scoundrel - and I adore him. The audiobook narrator is exceptional in creating this character, and made me laugh out loud multiple times. Avra has fallen in with a band of hapless pirates and a studly monk with an unfortunate vow of celibacy. He is also cursed with - good luck! And in spite of violent threats and lots of F-bombs, these are the sweetest pirates in the world. Sometimes they just want a cuddle, and maybe a charcuterie tray. The crucial contest in the off season at the pirate cove is - a cake competition!

I don't know if I would have appreciated the book as much without the delightful narration.
