SUMMER 2025 READING CHALLENGE

The Life of Chuck movie has left my theater, but I watched it six times so I have it imbedded pretty well in my memory. I'm anxious to compare..."
Thanks for all of the updates, Dustin! :D
I really enjoyed rereading it-want to see the movie now.

My movie theater started selling Gummy Snakes in the concession stand this summer. It's really weird.

Thanks for the update, Danell! :D

Interesting.

I was wondering if you have ever heard of the Andy Carpenter series by David Rosenfelt? It's a long running mystery series set in Northern New Jersey and the lawyer has a beloved Golden Retriever
Unlike Dean Koontz 's dogs the dogs in his books seem to be just regular dogs but make regular appearances in the series. Also the author like Koontz really loves the breed.
I just thought it was interesting that another author loves golden retrievers so much that he started a foundation and includes them in his books
Anyway have always meant to give the series a try but for some reason I haven't yet. Curious to hear your thoughts on it.

I've never heard of Andy Carpenter/David Rosenfelt, but really I don't branch out much. Everything new that I'm introduced to seems to be through the seasonal challenges of this group :-)

Thanks for the updates, Danell! :D
Rachel wrote: "Finished Unlikely Animals by Annie Hartnett for S-N-A-K-E in the title/subtitle. This is my second book by the author and I really like how she tells a story. Definitely quirky.

I'm currently reading a Read with Jenna title by one our group's favorite authors. The Mighty Red by Louise Erdrich

Thanks for the update, Dustin!
Hope you enjoy it! :D

I've read The Grownup once years ago. I should read it again.

Hope your next book is more enjoyable.
Danell wrote: "I read The Many Daughters of Afong Moy by Jamie Ford which was a read with Jenna book. It was ok. One of my favorites was written by him, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet."
Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet is a modern classic!

Currently reading The Wedding People by Alison Espach.
A Read With Jenna Pick. I'm finding it unique but highly sexual.

This morning, I finished re-reading Jenny Lawson's Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things. Using the subtitle, it contains the letters for SNAKE. This was my third time reading the book.

Thanks for the update, Dustin! :D
I should listen to that one again. Really enjoy her books on audio.

Thanks for the update, Danell! :)
Sorry you didn't enjoy the Ali Smith book. Hope your next book is more enjoyable. :)

Just a heads up that the fall group read is going to be King Sorrow by Joe Hill (available late October)
I would like feedback about possible bonus group reads. A few I have in mind:
Hemlock & Silver by T. Kingfisher
The favorites by Layne Fargo
The Correspondent by Virginia Evans

Thanks for the update, Danell! :D
I really liked that novella and the movie.

Danell wrote: "I listened to There But For The by Ali Smith. Her writing isn’t for me"
I should read this one again. Ali Smith writes in a different style. I rather like it. I've also enjoyed her seasonal quartet.

That's a good one. Love the movie too.

Please let me know which if any of these titles sound good for the second bonus group read next season:
The Correspondent by Virginia Evans
The Favorites by Layne Fargo
Bad things happened in this room by Marie Still
The once and future me by Melissa Pace
Even if none seem interesting please let me know. I'm not familiar with any of these authors but thought one might work
Just a recap-King Sorrow by Joe Hill is next seasons group read
Hemlock & Silver by T Kingfisher is one of the bonus reads.
Depending on your feedback there may be an additional bonus group read if any of the othdr titles sound good.
Hope all of you are well.

Thanks for the update, Danell! :)

Yes. That is why I'm on here so infrequently.
Goodreads is much easier to use on a PC than through the phone app. Goodreads is almost the only thing I use my laptop for anymore.
