Hannah | 3301 comments This is a fictionalised account of Bram Stoker’s life as he struggles to achieve his literary aspirations while being secretary to Sir Henry Irving, the actor who is also the owner of the Lyceum Theatre in London. Stoker is tasked with renovating, opening and managing the theatre, which leaves him with little time to write. There are lots of characters who appear in and around the theatre, including Oscar Wilde and other well-known actors and writers of the time, all set against the backdrop of Jack the Ripper stalking London. The book had a very gothic atmosphere, and it was easy to see how bits of Dracula could have been influenced by the events in this book. I really enjoyed the rapport between the characters, and I found the story fascinating.
