I read this is a while back but remember a bit. This year has been very difficult for me with a lot of unplanned, unwanted, and mandatory change to my job, location, and commute. With all that stress, I'm finding that simple, feel-good books are easier to palate and stay engrossed in. All of this book's simplicity and low stakes, the easy conflict resolution, mild characters, etc, this is what I found enchanting. I sort of put myself in the little cabin and escaped. LOL Silly but it was what I needed.

I liked it because sometimes you just need a relaxing read where you know everything will be okay. And I agree, the talking plants were great! Admittedly, I'm a librarian myself so I might have been pre-biased to like our lead. Even if I'm pretty ruthless with the books; I do not have the same reverence she does for them! (The book is old and tattered? Get rid of it!)
The plot was ok, again very basic but well rounded although the convincing of the captain not to look for the missing royal was way too easy in my opinion. If more books came out in the series I don't think that I would bother reading them.
I mainly feel that this book took the hype of Legends and Lattes and decided to rinse and repeat but it wasn't original enough for me to be as entertained reading it.
