This story dug deep into lots of topics I am passionate about. So many topics have been taboo or off limits, but it’s important to showcase more stories like this, that maybe not excuse people’s behaviour, but may at least provide insight into why they acted this way. Generational trauma, grooming, gaslighting, family secrets, all sorts of abuse were talked about here.
I was very angry at one point, when Alix said something along the lines of “I know we’re supposed to believe victims but…”. I’m glad she said it, because lots of people think it. I just was really worried it would end with Josie being painted as this crazy lady who went off the deep end all of a sudden, when the author had done such a great job at this point imo to show many sides of a twisted story. The end completely made up for it, I was so relieved!!
I have so much more I could say about the is one.
I just finished this book! I will write more comments later but guess what I found?
A bonus chapter!!!

Interesting thoughts Victoria! Thanks for sharing. I have to admit, I didn’t think so deeply about the “themes” or “lack there of themes apparently” haha.
I still really enjoyed reading the book. It was a page-turner.
Did anyone read the bonus chapter? I feel like I didn’t need it.
