Another big round of results, and we are now 20% through the voting process already!

Top
A book that's part of a series
A book with cover text that is NOT black or white
A book that has a punctuation mark in the title

Bottom
A book set during the time of the American Revolution (1775 - 1783)
A book with a character dealing with birth or rebirth
A book related to the Declaration of Independence

The next round of suggestions will open around 7 am CST on Sunday, July 13.

*Note: Our multi-week poll will be in Poll 4!

Rosemary Leonard | 23 comments Just to let you know that many of the British Library Crime Classics titles have coloured text.

message 3: by Bea (new)

Bea | 430 comments I'm pleased. I read a lot of series, and I remember voting yes for the other two.

So far most of my votes in all the polls have been positive ones. This is looking like a good reading year for me.

Elizabeth (elizabeth1234561) | 224 comments These are great results! I only voted for the series prompt but the other two are easily filled with my regular tbr.

message 5: by MJ (new)

MJ | 954 comments I was hoping the Middle East or desert prompts would get in. I think I was neutral on the three that got in.

20% already??? Maybe this will prevent the doldrums of later suggestion rounds.

Nike | 1653 comments I'm sorry that the birth/rebirth prompt didn't get in. And I'm surprised it's in the bottom! And I miss the desert prompt.

I like the series and the punctuation prompts.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 3578 comments Punctuation turned out to be far easier than I expected. I had too many books to add, so I had to stop.

I don’t plan for series books, but I always read a few, so I can plug those in after I complete other prompts. Actually I could say that for most of the prompts this year.

I like them well enough, but I’m ready for more content related prompts.

Same. It’s very fast. At this point, it looks like I might just do a rejection challenge next year.

So many non-fiction books have a colon in their title, so I’ll be using the punctuation prompt to fit a non-fic book that I can’t find a prompt for!

I will say that, historically, the first few polls tend to have more prompts make it in, and it slows down as we get further along. But having two 3 prompt polls and a 4 prompt poll is a bit faster than we have had. I do anticipate going into September though!

Thanks for the reminder as I am reading some of E.C.R. Lorac's books this year.

I suggested the desert prompt. I may re-suggest it without the setting specificity. I'll change it "related to or about a desert" and see if that is better for people. Or someone else can suggest as I have another suggestion I was planning on for Poll 3.

message 15: by Dubhease (new)

Dubhease | 1171 comments I upvoted 5 prompts, including the 3 that got in.

Declaration of Independence was one I downvoted, only because I think most of the people who wrote it were hypocrites who did not in fact believe that all people were created equal.

Really good point.

message 17: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3842 comments These 3 are easy enough to fill. I had hoped for the desert prompt so a little disappointed it didn’t make it. Happy for 3, though! I hope we can keep getting 3/week.

message 18: by Angie (new)

Angie | 72 comments These are all fine. I have some Riley Sager books on my shelf, and he nearly always uses colored text. The other two are also easy enough.

I was planning on suggesting the desert prompt when you beat me to it! I think it is well worth suggesting again, but not until we've gone quite a few weeks ahead. Honestly, I think "related to or about a desert" is less likely to get votes than simply "a desert setting". I can think of lots of books set in a desert, but when I try to think about books "related to a desert" or "about a desert", that feels more limiting rather than less. For example, books about Las Vegas are set in a desert, but they don't relate to one nor are they about one.

message 20: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabeth1234561) | 224 comments I didn't vote desert this time but would definitely vote for it in the future. I wasn't considering Arizona or Vegas when I voted, and I read plenty set there.

I voted for desert, even though the first picture in my head was a vast expanse of sand with only a few nomads or camels. I know better, but i live in a rainy area and it’s easy to forget that Las Vegas and other cities around the world are technically in the middle of a desert. I wonder if anyone else assumed there might not be a lot of books that would work.

Is there another way to word it? Plus a few examples of well known books?

message 22: by LeahS (new)

LeahS | 1380 comments Not wowed by the series prompt, but they are all perfectly doable. Relieved the very narrow American Revolution didn't make it. I would also like deserts to have another chance.

message 23: by Juliet (new)

Juliet Brown | 260 comments I suspect that being in the same round as the ‘Middle East ‘ setting prompt both split votes for the desert one and caused people to perceive it as more limited

Nothing I upvoted made it, but neither did anything I downvoted.

FYI, there were already three duplicates in the Listopia for titles with punctuation, so please check first :) :) :)

message 25: by Dixie (new)

Dixie (dixietenny) | 1162 comments Reminder! If you add books to a list using Search, it will not duplicate a title already in the list. Don't use the "My Books" option when adding books or duplication can happen.

Don’t worry about duplicates. There is a check and delete tool for listopias that the list creator can use. Emily checks them all periodically, or when requested.

It’s only tricky with cover prompts, because the system might default to a cover for the book that doesn’t fit the prompt.

Yep, what NancyJ said, I check the listopias fairly regularly for duplicates, especially the ones like the title and cover prompts that lend themselves to more duplicates than others.
