Nancy Backes | 2 comments The book is set in modern times, perhaps published in the last 20 years or so. The main thing I remember is the older woman breaking a chair seat and her butt falling through and she is stuck and can't get out. She is like that for a long time but is rescued by a young man who comes to the house - either a repairman or deliveryman. These two form an unlikely friendship. I'm thinking in the course of the book she helps him with something, perhaps a legal matter? It is a feel good story about friendship. I don't remember a lot of specific details except for the broken chair and her being rescued by this man who happened to find her stuck there.

Molly | 117 comments It's Walking Across Egypt by Clyde Edgerton! The woman's name is Mattie, and she's found stuck in a rocking chair by a young man named Wesley. He was in a juvenile detention center, and she helps him out and they become friends. If you liked that one, try The Floatplane Notebooks....it's great too.

Nancy Backes | 2 comments Yes! Walking Across Egypt by Clyde Edgerton is the book is was thinking of. Thank-you, Molly. Also thanks to Rainbowheart for the book list. I've saved the list and may find some good ones there as I like the unlikely friendship genre.
