I pulled the prompt 'book with an ugly cover', I have no idea where to start - could people give recommendations on books that you have read where the covers are questionable but the actual book is amazing?
Kind of a 'don't judge a book by it's cover' vibes.
I have a book that might work for this. I think Close Encounters of the Third Kind would work because the cover isn't really showing you how amazing the inside of the book is. its a bit bland, it looks like they tried and then gave up. but the book inside is a sort of fantasy/realism. its about aliens who have been observing earth and studying humans so now they want to meet us and they send out a frequency which only a few people hear. these people look as if they've gone mad as they try to figure out this message but they don't know what it is, who sent it or what it wants them to do so very very few figure it out and those few have to battle it out with the government to get to the aliens. it sounds bonkers written down but the story itself- its almost like it could happen tomorrow, its brilliant. it is also a film by Steven Spielberg so I suggest reading the book then watching the film. It is amazing!!!
