Not because they’re careless… but because they never thought they were leaving.
They smile one last time, say something small,
and walk out of your life like it’s just another day.

She left her scarf behind.
He found it curled on her usual chair.
He didn’t touch it for a week
as if it still belonged to her,
as if touching it might erase the last thing she forgot to carry with her.
“She forgot her red scarf. I wonder if she forgot me too.”

They never said goodbye.
But sometimes silence becomes the loudest memory.

He gave her candy.
She gave him silence, soft enough to be mistaken for comfort.
And every day he waited not for her to come back,
but for the version of himself that only existed when she was near.
“I was just a library boy she smiled at. But I held that smile like scripture.”

Years passed.
Snow came and left again,
but some winters settle inside you and never leave.

He never said “I love you.”
But he saved her scarf like it was a promise he was never brave enough to ask for.
“Some people grow up and fall in love. I grew up and stayed in love.”

And that’s the thing about soft heartbreak —
no one sees it.
No one hears it.
But it stays with you longer than the loud kind.

I actually wrote something kinda around this feeling not exactly the same, but close in vibe.
Ig I just love this kind of theme where everything’s quiet and soft but still hits deep. If you’ve read any books like that, feel free to drop them. I honestly never get tired of reading stories like this.

Thank you for reading this
