What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I read a book back when I was about 13 back in the early to mid 80s but it might have been published in the 70's it had a black cover with a girl on the front dancing with a male ghost with a skull for a face. the story was about a girl who visits her cousin at a castle in either Scotland or England and is possessed by a ghost searching for her locket that she lost after she drowned in a pond while running away to meet her true love because her father didn't approve of him. It was a paperback, but I can't remember the title or author to save my life. What does stand out is the girl who is possessed gets rescued from drowning by a guy who removes his belt and uses it to pull her out. hope someone can help me find this little gem of a book.
