A memoir by a boy from Trondheim, Norway, recalling childhood during World War II and the postwar years of the late 1940s and 1950s. From encounters with the Gestapo to playful days in the Singsaker and Rosenborg neighborhoods, the author shares stories of friendship, mischief, and the challenges of adolescence in a world without television, where horse manure in the streets and the arrival of rock and roll marked the times. A heartfelt tribute to a mother raising three boys on her own in an era of scarce means and great resilience.
