Seraphina | 1 comments I’m in my late 20s and fairly new to dating. Lately, I’ve been finding it really hard to enjoy romance books the way I used to. I keep comparing my lackluster real-life dates to the (rightfully so) high standards in romance stories. It was thanks to romance books I even started to figure out what relationship standards should be like. I don’t want to stop reading romance, but lately it stirs up a mix of misplaced jealousy, envy, frustration, and even sadness. Has anyone else gone through this? How did you handle it?

Lara Josephine | 28 comments Hey Seraphina, I think a lot of us struggle with comparison when it comes to romance books (or even life in general). It’s so natural to start holding real life up against those stories, but honestly good for you that your standards are high. That’s such an important thing, because the right person will love you exactly the way you deserve.

In the meantime, keep focusing on yourself and being the best you can be and what makes you feel grounded. If romance books bring you joy, don’t stop reading them — there’s absolutely nothing wrong with you for loving them. And if you’re in a bit of a slump, here’s my favourites shelf you might like to peek at:
