FROM THE MODS

* Our final readathon of the year will be held September 26-28, 2025. Visit Readathon Central for more information about this fall-themed individual readathon. There will be more readathon fun in 2026!

* Your Mod Squad will soon begin planning for 2026! If you are new to the group, you may not realize how much our members influence this planning. Over the next few months, we will seek your input for a yearly theme, new challenge ideas, existing challenges to bring back, and our annual masthead and logo contest. Keep an eye on these messages and our discussion board for more information, and help set the tone for the next year!

GAMES
More than 40 members played in our inaugural game, Word Chain (Book Title Edition). Some played once, while others played many times. We hope you all had fun helping us kick off this new group activity! Next up will be Scattergories, which was suggested by Rachael. Please share your own Game Suggestions with us.

GROUP READ
Our September theme is Whimsy, and our group read for this month is The House in the Cerulean by T.J. Klune , a heartwarming fantasy set at Marsyas Island Orphanage, involving a social worker, six magical children, and their caretaker.

You can join the discussion or post your review of the book!
You can also vote for our October book with the theme of Superstition, as well as nominate a book for November with the theme of Pets!

CHALLENGES
We’re excited to introduce new monthly challenges for September’s theme of Whimsy and we have one final month left for our third quarter challenges with the theme of Anger.

Monthly challenges
Whimsical You is an open challenge to read books based on a whimsical character of your own creation.
Down the Rabbit Hole is a prompt-based challenge based on the nonsensical Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland books.

Quarterly challenges
Rage on the Page is an open challenge to read books with anger in their themes or titles, or with red covers.
Recreational Anger features prompts based on movies from a variety of locations, times, and genres.

Yearly challenges can help you reach your reading goals for the year in 2025. Check out A Guide to the 2025 Yearly Challenges to learn more about our year-long challenges!

Do you have an idea for a new challenge? Please let us know! Most of our quarterly and monthly challenges grow from our members’ suggestions. We would love to hear your creative ideas!

TBR TWINS
Share a book with an online friend while knocking off a read from your TBR list!

If you’ve signed up for September, find your TBR Twin here. Please reach out to your twin and choose a book to read together!
You can also sign up for October TBR Twins here, and we'll pair you with someone to read a book with next month.
