Reading the Classics discussion

This thread is for discussing The Picture of Dorian Gray.

With 9 to 8 votes, Dorian Gray barely topped Fahrenheit 451 in the polls. Since so many people wanted to read that, I highly suggest doing so anyway and opening up a thread for discussion in the Side Reads folder.

If you've read Dorian Gray before, you may be interested in the recent uncensored typescript edition published in 2010, as some, especially homoerotic, content was censored in the first edition. This is one of the uncensored editions:The Picture of Dorian Gray: An Annotated, Uncensored Edition
The general opinion seems to be that it should not entirely replace the original, though.
So, which edition are you reading?

Also, is there interest in a spoiler-free thread? Or 3-4 threads for each third or fourth of the book? Many people don't want to have the plot revealed to them beforehand and only discuss what they've read so far.

Planning to make this my next travelling audio - fortunately ICPL has the new uncensored print ed as well so should be able to make comparisons.

Thanks for the separate threads, Simon. I'm hoping that I can squash this book in as I've wanted to read it for ages!

I'm not re-reading it, since I just read it last year or so, but I remember finding it very good and compelling, though very dark and disturbing. Some incredibly disturbing events happen, showing some horrible sides of human nature. The way Wilde explores it is innovative and fascinating, though, using the "cloak" of the picture to show the visual side of a very hidden evil.

I don't know if what I read was the "uncensored version" or not. It's a copy from college a few years ago, so I have no idea?
