Are these meant to be titles, covers or just themes from the books? Also what is the time range?
P.S. If you like challenges I recommend the Seasonal Reading Challenge Group if you aren't already a member. I like to mix up my reading so I'm not just reading 1001 books and this works perfectly.

6) Empire of the Sun and the Kindness of Women
8) The Poisonwood Bible....if that counts because it's part of a word)
9 The Sea, the Sea by Iris Murdoch (awful book though!)
12) Half of a Yellow Sun
13) The Castle of Otranto
17) Gone with the Wind
20) Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Other American Stories
21) Life of Pi (has a tiger in it...!)
23) Lady Chatterley's Lover
24) The Turn of the Screw (Ghost Story)/ Dracula
25) The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Detective)/ Doctor Zhivago (title)
I agree it's fun to have a mini challenge, helps with choosing the next book to read too!!

I am reading the 1001 books geographically in challenges in the Around the World in 80 Books group. Challenges help to break up the monotony and making the task of reading 1300+ books a bit more fun.

This is just one example of one challenge they have I find fun to do. These are words in titles.
I will look into that group too, thanks!

Where you mention the I Spy Challenge, do you mean the task is to read a book from each of the 25 categories in 2015? I'll have to see if some of the ones I've read already this year could be counted if I'm ever going to come near finishing 25 books! Just hope I don't go downhill again as that's when I can't read a thing. Fingers crossed.

It's just one challenge example from a very nice group with great people. They have more than just this one challenge and you participate in those you want too. There are many such groups. I like this one because it's relaxed with nice people and I get my own thread to have all challenges I want in.
It's just a suggestion for those doing this huge task of reading all 1001 books that feel like having something that breaks itup a bit :)
But for your question: Yes that is the task. And yes, books read this year is counted also :)

I recommend to join the group Reading Challenge 2015 as a companion group to this one. It's very focused on doing challenges, and if you like me love to cross out, it's really fun. You can get your own thread were you collect all the challenges you participate in.
Thought I should mention it. I think it can make it even more fun to have such minigoals on the way :)
