It's that time again!

This time around we're going to nominate one collection and one retelling.

The retelling can be either YA or adult, and the collection can consist of either retellings or traditional tales.

Here are some good sources for ideas of what to nominate:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Into the Forest Bookshelf: https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...
Endicot Studio Reading List: http://endicottstudio.typepad.com/jom...

SurLaLune Fairy Tales Site : http://www.surlalunefairytales.com

Before nominating please check that the books are readily available ( says I who nominated a book for the last group read that was really hard to find! )

Mary Catelli | 1135 comments The Perilous Gard by Elizabeth Marie Pope -- a Tam Lin tale -- for retelling

Italian Folktales by Italo Calvino for the collection

Leah (flying_monkeys) | 1009 comments For a collection I'll nominate Native Plant Stories by Joseph Bruchac

"These mythical stories draw upon legends from eighteen Native American tribes and illustrate the importance of plant life in Native American traditions."

For a retelling I'll nominate Blue Diary by Alice Hoffman. This one's also on Endicott's Adult Fairy Tales - in case anyone else is reading their way through that list.

Lacey Louwagie | 236 comments I'd like to nominate Cloaked in Red (Red Riding Hood retellings), Little Red Riding Hood in the Big Bad City (various fairy tale retellings), or Black Thorn, White Rose (various fairy tale retellings.)

Hi Lacey! The three different collections you nominated all look amazing! They are all short story collections. If there are any novels that are retellings feel free to nominate them too. That way we will have around the same amount of each, collections and novels to choose from. If not, no problem! In the case that there are lots of collections and not many novels, I might nominate two novels instead of one novel and one collection.

I've had that on my TBR pile for a couple of years now! I even own two separate copies.

Me too!

Lacey Louwagie | 236 comments Oh, sure, I don't mind adding a few novels so the lists are more balanced -- there are just so many retelling novels I want to read that it's harder to narrow down for nominations. :) If they don't have to be related to the collections themes, I'll nominate Noah Barleywater Runs Away (Pinocchio), Heart's Blood (Beauty & the Beast), and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister (Cinderella).

I still have not decided. Every time I find something I want to read ( Boy, Snow, Bird, Briar Rose ,Zel Mirror Mirror), I see that a lot of you who I am friends with on Goodreads have read it already!

So for those of you who have already read some of the titles I mentioned above, would you be interested in rereading or participating in a discussion about them or both?

For adult I'm going to nominate Lavinia, which is a retelling of The Aeneid. I'll admit, I haven't read The Aeneid in a very long time and remember very little of it, but Lavinia sounds good.

I'm in a short story mood so for collections I'll nominate The Beastly Bride: Tales of the Animal People.

I like everyone's nominations!

I've only read one of those--Boy, Snow, Bird--but I would certainly join in on the conversation.

Okay, after a lot of consideration, I am going nominate for
The collection The Green Fairy Book by Andrew Lang and renominate Sleeping in Flame by Jonathan Carroll!

I would join in a discussion for both Zel and Boy, Snow, Bird even though I've already read them.

The book I selected for a retelling was also a renomination from a previous Group Read nom/vote. :)

No nomination for the collection (I want to read the Calvino book!).

For the retelling, I'll nominate Bound.
It's on the Endicott YA list and it seems to be one of the few Napoli books that hasn't been widely read by the group yet.
