I remember checking this book out several different times when my mom would take me to the library. I'd always get a huge (to a 6-year-old) stack of books, and I'd start reading as soon as we got in the car. I'd finish the stack in a day and want to go back to the library the next...
As I think about the reasons this is (was?) a banned book, I can only think of reasons why it's a reflection of real life: * children will misbehave; * parents will discipline their children; * children will throw tantrums; * children are imaginative and "monsters" are typical; * children come around; and * parents keep loving and caring for them.
Yes, I know that's not all true in every instance. In my life experience, that's how it goes.
I had already read this to the children in the past but I read it again today.
I agree with Ashleys comments and the 'monsters' obviously love the little boy which hopefully will help the children not be as scared of their own monsters.
