Does anyone know the theme of this book?

I need to do a research paper on this book for school and am thinking about writing it on how unfulfilled expectations in society (having kids, getting married, etc.) create loneliness, which causes people to have different coping methods

The only problem I have is finding research that can prove this.

Any ideas for this paper or research would be greatly appreciated :)
