I am looking forward to that. Gaiman, on the other hand is very sinister.

You are so right, Mike. It transports you to a different world - it seemed as though i was right there in the same room with the characters as the story unfolds.

ROSE- IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS- ASK IVAN- OUR RESIDENT CAPOTE EXPERT!"
Thanks Rick, will do. Very creepy stuff so far."
One of my favorite books of all times, and the first real crime book I ever read. It is creepy stuff, but very good!

Wow! I think im gonna drop by the bookshop again tonight to start on Terry Pratchett. I grabbed The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery last night but i havent started reading. Has very good reviews though im reserving my judgment until i read the book.

I loved Possession. Have you read her last year's Booker entry? It was also excellent.

In Cold Blood is an excellent book. I just wrote up a post this month on it on my blog. It's one of my all-time favorite books.

I don't usually read two books at a time, but the nonfiction book is great for short bursts of reading, like when I'm waiting for an appointment. A DIFFERENT SHADE OF BLUE is about the first women on the Seattle police force. Fascinating stuff.

It's always so gratifying to find another convert. Welcome to the club, Rick!
Just finished The Ghost Map: The Story of London's Most Terrifying Epidemic--and How It Changed Science, Cities, and the Modern World for my F2F book group. I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed it -- a 5-star book for me, for sure. It reminded me a lot of Larson's writing. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys books like The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America.
I've moved on to The Earth Hums in B Flat, which I'm also enjoying so far. It's what The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie was meant to be -- a mystery told in the voice of a young girl -- only this one actually rings true. I found the heroine in Sweetness to be rather grating. The 12-year-old in The Earth Hums, on the other hand, is endearing.

Take it off of the sale shelf! I am only on chapter 4, however, there is something magical that is happening; I can't stop reading. It is a book about magicians, right?
I am currently doing something that I have not done in years. I have 4 books going at the same time. They are all very different from one another, so it should not be too difficult to keep them all straight.

Miss GP..............I agree with you on Ghost Map and The Devil in the White City..... very interesting books. Another one you might like is The Great Mortality about the Black Death.

I love bringing books home from the library! Sometimes I even read some of them! :)

Nancy I started
The Children's Book earlier this year but I didn't really have the time to devote to it. Her books are dense and need to be savored, so I really need to have a few weeks to sit and read it. I look forward to getting to it soon.

Okay, will take your advice and start on Wyrd Sisters. Our bookshops here in the Phils carry Terry Pratchett but am not too sure if they have the whole bunch.

Hi Pam, tried doing that once, start several books at the same time but i had a hard time trying to absorb what i read so i dropped it and went back to reading one at a time. :)

That is so true, Mike.Unfortunately for me, there are not so many good libraries near where i live so all i do is buy them in the local bookshops or order them from Amazon. Now, i have a tower of unread books in my room but i do hope to finish them all very soon!

Thanks, Jill! I'll put it on my list.

Augustan era to pre-World War II book club! (This group is for books written from 1700-1939 minus Jane Austen and Victorian era books since there are already groups for these. I created this group because a few books I have do not seem to fit into any particular group. There are already 90 books in the bookshelf to give you an idea when nominating for the bi-monthly group read)

I'm currently reading the Stieg Larsson Millenium series. Finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and am racing through the 2nd book, The Girl Who Played With Fire.

I am reading several books at once, but the one that is resonating the most for me in, Les Browns' "It's not over until You Win", It is an motivational read.

BIO OF GEORGE TIMMONS-HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
George Straatman embarked on a twenty year journey to create the trilogy "The Converging" in the early 1980's. He diligently researched several books on demons, the occult and mythology as was common belief predominantly between the fourteenth to the sixteenth century. His three novels are an accumulation of thousands of hours of work. They differ from the vigilante trend prevalent in many horror novels written in the past several years. It is noteworthy to mention that the seemingly unstoppable demon entities are two female antagonist along with another who is protagonist. To destroy the two demons, Cynara and Elizabeth, is some mere mortals to accomplish such a daunting task. His novels reflect the notion that not everything that appears to the reader as absolute is not the case when one completes reading them. George Straatman has also already wrote several fantasy books awaiting publication. The readers who have read the trilogy acknowledge the uniqueness of the novels as they are highly rated.

Lyn,
I've discovered Bohjalian's writing within the last year and a half and he's quickly become one of my favorite authors. If you enjoy "Secrets of Eden," you should check out both "Midwives" and "Skeletons at the Feast." Both are fantastic novels.

curious if anyone read the many "New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" written by current authors- there seems to be about 5 collections - just wondering if they are worth reading

Dave- I tend to agree with you- especially with remakes of films- when the new Sherlock Holmes film came out- and some friends asked me to go- as I rained down insults upon then- in deference to Rathbone and Bruce- they never EVEN heard of Basil Rathbone or Nigel Bruce- a rare exception was Murder By Decree- and that is only because the namesake of this Group played Watson- brilliantly

The new Sherlock Holmes film was a lot of fun! Sure, it had lots of special effects, but it had a good, creepy mysterious bad-guy that had to be thwarted by Holmes and Watson. Taken for what it was intended to be it was worth seeing!

I will admitt that my brother loved it Jeanette
