I work on computers as well and also avoid it as much as possible on free time. I don't ride horseback much to speak of, but I do enjoy kayaking in the bay on occasion and I hike a lot.
I'm with you on liking books with strong characters. I read all genres myself as long as the writing and characters are good.

And I probably should mention my name so folks don't have to call me by an initial, huh? The 'A' is for Arin.
Nice to meet you. :)

Hi Arin, what a great sense of humor. Thank you for reaching out to say hello. You should fit in very well.
Welcome Arin!

I don't mind technobabble as long as stories and characters are interesting and the technobabble is internally consistent. But, I know a lot of SF aficionados who feel as you do.
I'd suggest for SF works, C.J. Cherryh's incomparable Foreigner series and any other of her works too. They have strong female and strong male characters
Horseback archery! I'm impressed. I've a granddaughter whose taken riding lessons for several years. I think I may turn her on to horseback archery!

I've tried C.J. Cherryh before but couldn't quite 'feel' it. I may do so again though, because I've had this recommendation from others as well!
Horseback archery is a ton of fun. It's actually growing in popularity in the US (and by growing, I mean, maybe 10 people do it now as opposed to 5). I don't compete anymore because there's not a ton of it around where I live, but I do still train. Nothing says "I can survive the zombie apocalypse" like whipping out an arrow from on top of a running horse and shooting it into a bullseye.
:D
Anyhow, I read voraciously. Mostly, it's what I do at work while trying to AVOID doing work.
I like to read stories with strong character development, regardless of the genre, although I prefer to stick to those books that feature LGBTQ characters.
I avoid anything overtly religious and also technical Sci-Fi (I love stories that focus on space exploraton and alien races and cultures, but when it starts getting into too much of the 'blip-toggle the frapmodulator to reverse the neutronic flux capacitor' ... eh... *drops book and wanders off*... you lost me).
I also love humor and sarcasm. I bathe in it regularly. Keeps my skin young or something. :)
I work with computers and I hate it. I write in my free time, and I'm also a competitive horseback rider. I do horseback archery as well. I'm a total foodie and love cooking. And watching cooking. And eating cooking. Er, maybe a bit too much of that last one.
So yeah - hi!
