I had to google EM field. I think it is disturbed.

OK - so right now - if you do a search for Eat Pray and Love - the book by Elizabeth Gilbert DOES NOT COME UP! So if anyone searched for it they would assume that it was not there and add it manually!!!!!!

And when you search for Elizabeth Gilbert the book doesn't come up either!!

And there is already another Water for Elephants because it didn't come up when you searched earlier -and now this is the only one that shows up. It needs to be deleted - but I suspect that is the thing that makes the book not show up in the search.

Yes, perhaps this should be posted in bugs.

Should we continue deleting books while this is being researched? Official librarians, what do you say?


Edit: Maybe the effect is temporary: The Omnivore's Dilemma is once again showing up in searches.

And it seems to be only when we delete those that require super-users. I just deleted a copy of the Undomestic Goddess and it still comes up in a search. Here is a copy that requires a super-user. Why don't you delete it and lets see if that affects the search.

Well I spoke too soon. I just tried the search again and it does not come up.

Considering that the bestsellers are hard to find and we end up with so many duplicates, would it be quick/easy to have some sort of 'Most popular' list (with covers) somewhere prominent so people are inspired to just click on those instead of searching?

Could some books not be coming up in searches because of caps/no caps? "Eat Pray Love" vs. "eat pray love?" Just a thought. I noticed in the "combine fields" pages that capitalization is a factor in alphabetizing....

Kristen, there already is a most popular list with covers...it is perhaps not that prominent, which might be the issue. It's hidden under the Explore tab, then "Most Read" or "Most Popular" (which have somewhat different meanings).

I've actually gone through some of the top books on that list looking for duplicates under the assumption that these are the books most likely to be readded and found and cleaned up a lot...they include many of the books we've seen notes about here over the past week, like Water for Elephants, The Kite Runner, and Eat, Pray, Love (or whatever it is called), which is partly how I know I'd done them before.

This book needs to be deleted please.

Sally, while the alphabetization algorithm finds caps/no caps confusing, the search seems to ignore it. Good thought!

I'm sure it's because of that disappearing from the search thing that happens. I hope it is fixed soon. Because here are MORE Elephants!!!!

Melody, I'm sure you're right. I got those last two. A new friend on GR had a study guide of To Kill a Mockingbird on her shelves because she couldn't find the actual book. I was able to get her the link to all the editions, but they hadn't shown up in a search. It's why I keep going through and deleting the editions of these popular books, but it also perpetuates the inability to find them. Frustrating. :-(

Got to all of yours. Had procrastinated about Middlesex. Finally sent a message to the person who'd put in a description of the book in a foreign language with the description copied & pasted in case they wanted to use it elsewhere, preferably in a foreign language edition of the book.

Have to get off now. Melody, if nobody has gotten to yours when I get back, will try to get it. I don't feel confident with the ones that have ISBNs, even if incorrect, but I have been able to do some of those. Will look later and check it out if it's still undone.
