Alright, I started this the other day. Just finished the buddy read I'd been working on; will be delving into this one tonight!

Chapters 1-3:

--(view spoiler)[When I saw "chain letter" as the title, I was expecting this to be about one of those stupid email forwards that get sent around every so often. "Do such and such or blankity blank will happen to you," that sort of thing. I didn't expect an actual chain LETTER--like snail mail. Like "REALLY do this, or things will happen." (hide spoiler)]

--(view spoiler)[So who sent the letter? And what exactly do they want in the end? (hide spoiler)]

--(view spoiler)[This begs the question: Was the guy dead before, or after, the car hit him? Who's really to blame...and who else knows about that night? (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 4-11:

--(view spoiler)[Wow...a few of the Caretaker's repercussions seem REALLY harsh for only being the very first task out of two? three? total. If he's willing to go THIS far already... (hide spoiler)]

--(view spoiler)[Also, I wonder HOW the Caretaker knew who was considering rebelling against him. I mean...obviously he can't read everybody's minds, so how is he so certain which of them will fight him/his set tasks? (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 15:

--(view spoiler)[Okay, so Fran and Kipp are missing, Kipp having apparently lost a lot of blood before being dragged out his bedroom window.....and now Neil's DEAD?! Was it diabetes/illness related, or the sinister Caretaker? I guess we'll find out...but still--shocked much? Yes. (hide spoiler)]

--(view spoiler)[Because Neil refused to burn down the school, the Caretaker burned down his house. With him still in it. Harsh, dude. Wonder where Fran and Kipp are. (hide spoiler)]

--(view spoiler)[But wait. Neil's house burned to the ground with him apparently asleep in bed....but....there's really no evidence yet that it was him, save his ring on his finger. Not conclusive. So...maybe he's alive? (hide spoiler)]

--(view spoiler)[HAH! I KNEW the kid drank too much orange juice to be a diabetic! Also, he never did insulin, which...being a diabetic myself...I know better. (hide spoiler)]

52% finished; book one completed

(view spoiler)[Christopher Pike has a habit of ending his books--no matter how grisly or disturbing--on a bittersweet note; a little bit of romance, a sad goodbye...and a fresh start in the morning. I'm not sure what the next Caretaker has in store for our characters; I guess we'll find out. I wonder who it is this time. (hide spoiler)]

Ending here for the night; will pick up again tomorrow.

Just finished. I didn't like the second portion of this nearly as much as I liked the first. Oh well.

That was pretty interesting concept (view spoiler)[about whether or not the man was dead before or not.. still doesn't excuse their behavior of not reporting it.. but I understand their dilemma (hide spoiler)]

Finished Book 1

(view spoiler)[I'm really impressed by the plot twist.. I did not see it coming.. Neil was intriguingly mysterious.. and I'm not trusting their new girl neighbor (hide spoiler)]

I'm not expecting the second book to be better, but I want to see what happens

Book 2, chapter 14 (view spoiler)[I don't like how Tony is treating Allison. That was pathetic and insecure. And I knew this new girl is trouble. Now she is obviously part of satanic cult?! I'm intrigued (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 16 (view spoiler)[NOOOO, I can't believe Alli shot herself. He didn't deserve her sacrifice. (hide spoiler)]

Epilogue (view spoiler)[well, seems like Allison is not dead after all. But this thing with "let's see this how we want to see it" was really confusing. What kind of guy was that healer guy. I wish there were more answers. (hide spoiler)]
