David Essex, was not a one hit wonder, had 5-6 hits in the 70's.
My favourite era, the 70's.
Gonna Make You A Star
Hold Me Close (my favourite)
A Winter's Tale
Oh What A Circus
Tahiti
Hits from 1965 to 1998.
Also made quite a few films as well as mainly working on the stage.
Now 68 years old. Busy on the stage and films

Thanks for the education...70's probably my favorite era too, but missed the songs that you noted.
I'll have to check them out!
