YA Buddy Readers' Corner ♥ discussion

A game for those who seek to find, a way to leave their world behind.



This will be a team reading challenge which will run from June 1st to June 30th inclusively. Results will be announced on July 1st.

To play this game, participants will be split into teams. Each team will need to read books to complete the game of Jumanji (using the descriptions given).

Rules:
* Each description may be completed up to 4 times during the challenge, but must be completed by a different team member each time (one player cannot complete 'Read a book about bullying' 4 times, it must be 4 different people. you can however have 4 members who all read the same book.)

* Teams will be required to split the descriptions between them, and allocate them to their individual players, as planning will be needed to ensure everyone reads the right books to reach the team goal. If teams are unable to do this, then the descriptions will be allocated randomly to each player using random.org. It is completely up to the team how they split the descriptions between them, there is no minimum number per player, you can simply post as you read a book that fits the description, or plan ahead. Strategies will be up to the individual teams!

* Books must be read between the 1st of June to the 30th of June inclusive.
* Books must be over 100 pages long.

Points:
* Bonus points will be given each time one of the four parts of the challenge is completed. (Bonus points for completion of parts will be awarded to teams only, not individual players)
* Each completed description will earn the team/player 1 point.
* Buddy reads (which take place within our group) will gain the team/player 1 bonus point for books 100 - 449 pages long, or 2 bonus points for books 450+ pages long.
* for every 1000 pages read, the team/player will receive 5 equaliser points.

This challenge will be a team challenge. When signing up please let us know if you want to join a 'Serious' team (reading 8 books or more), or a 'Just for fun' team (reading any number of books). You may also choose to only take part in the 'solo' part of the challenge (there will also be one winner who has earned the most points overall, those people in teams will be automatically entered into the solo challenge as well).
As with the team part of the challenge, each participant is only able to complete each book description once.

With reards to books not started in June - you may claim any pages read in June, but you can only claim pages, you won't be able to use any books started before June (or shorter than 100 pages) to complete any of the descriptions, and you won't be able to claim buddy read points for books started before June ☺

So, if you are finishing a book in June that you started in May, you are welcome to post the book and review on your team thread, and claim the number of pages read in June ☺


And with regards to posting lots of reviews all at once, we ask that everybody be up-to-date with posting their reviews by the 25th of June please, just so everybody knows where their team stands with time still to change things ☺

The Game...



Part 1 - The beginning!



- Read a book about bullying.
- Read a book by an author, or with a character who’s name starts with the letter ‘A’ (for Alan)
- Book with shoes or trainers on the cover
- Read a book with soil/earth/ digging equipment/ something buried, or a box or trunk on the cover.
- Read a book set in a boarding school
- Pick a playing piece – read a book with an animal on the cover
- Read a book by an author, or with a character called ‘Sarah’
- Winged things… read a book with the letters ‘B’, ‘A’, and ‘T’ in the title
- Read a book set in another world
- In the Jungle you must wait… read a book with trees on the cover.

Part 2 – 26 years later…



- Read a book set in the future, or in the past (after 2041 or before 1989)
- Read a book with a house on the cover (or in the title)
- Read a book featuring an orphan
- A tiny bite can make you itch – read a book with something that flies on the cover
- Watch out for those monkeys! Distract them by reading a book with food on the cover!
- Watch out for that Lion! Find something even scarier! Read a horror story!
- Roll a five or an eight – read 800 pages of your choice (can be made up from more than 1 book.)
- What year is it? Read a book published in 1995.
- I’ve been in Jumanji! Read a book with the word 'game' or 'play' in the title.
- That’s my car! Read a book with a car on the cover.

Part 3 – Time to play the game:



- We need our fourth player! Quick buddy read a book! (GBR & BR&R also count)
- They grow much faster than bamboo – Read a book with flowers on the cover.
- Watch out for the hunter! Read a book with the words ‘hunter/hunted/hunt’ in the title.
- It’s a stampede! Run! Read a book whose title starts with the letter R.
- We lost the game! Read a book in which someone goes missing.
- Help! I’m turning into a monkey! Read a book starting with one of your teammates initials to save them! (Each teammate’s initial can only be used once!)
- There be a monsoon in your lagoon! Read a book with water or rain on the cover (or in the title)
- You wrestled a crocodile for me! Read a romance novel.
- The floor is quicker than the sand. Read a book with a beach on the cover, or set at the beach.
- Need a hand? We each have 8! Read a fantasy story.

Part 4 – The end



- Finish the game! Read books whose titles begin with J,U,M,A,N,J,I

(whenever I think of taking a break from team challenge, you come up with an irresistible challenge LOL)

Abbie had me moaning last weekend that I couldn't think of an interesting challenge, I eventually came up with this, but it took a while ☺

I'm in! I guess for fun. Just a question since this is my first time joining the group's team challenge, I can read anywhere from part 1 to 4 or is there any kind of order? And how many members per team? thanks sarah :)

You can read any of the descriptions from any of the parts, it doesn't matter in which order. You'll have to let your team know which ones you intend to read so that you can all plan ☺ I'm not sure how many members per team yet, probably around 8 to 10.

Abbie, sarah this challenge is great! I'm always impressed by how creative you both are. I'll join and i will be playing seriously. I've missed taking part in a challenge this month but i think i needed a break! (challenges are always fun but i little overwhelming haha)

I absolutely loved this one when Sarah came up with it! We're both big fans of the movie. :)

All that moaning from Sarah paid off then Abbie, haha! I do like the movie but it gave me awful nightmares when i was younger, think it was the spiders!
