Cindie | 1837 comments How do I conplete task 30.1 if I was not in the Fall Reading Challenge? (We are supposed to read a book whose Dewey Decimal number matches the number of pages of one of our favorite books from the Fall Reading Challenge)? Should I just use one of my favorite books I read before the challenge?

Cindie,

Each task has it's own help topic, try looking here for PJread's responses about her task. I believe she has said if you didn't participate in the Fall Challenge, you should use one of the highest rated books on your "read" list. See message 29 in the topic linked above:

"...One Of the seven (7) Books You Rated Highest From The 2009 Fall Challenge (Or Your GR Read List)"

scherzo♫ (pjreads) Is When Everything Changed The Amazing Journey of American Women from 1960 to the Present by Gail Collins acceptable for part B of task 15.3 (What Women Want)?

Not autobio/bio but it is about a lot of women I admire and written by a woman.

for Task 20.1, I would like to revisit the movie/book challenge from the fall challenge (book & film adaptation from the last 10 years). I would like to read The Private Lives of Pippa Lee and watch the movie (in theatres now). This challenge was not listed in the task suggestions list posted. I would like to know if we can only do the tasks listed in that thread or we can do ANY past challenge as long as it is over 15 points. I asked at the other thread, but have yet to recieve an answer.

Thanks :)

That's fine by me - I only listed the tasks that required one book and no extra activities to keep it even but you can do any task that was worth 15+ points.

message 263: by Asho (new)

Asho | 181 comments This isn't a question about a specific task, but I'm not sure where else to ask it.

Is there a way to find out whether an author is a Goodreads author other than by clicking "explore" and then clicking on "authors" and then scrolling through all of the hundreds of pages of authors? I feel like there's probably an easier way and I'm just missing it.

message 264: by Liz M (last edited Dec 09, 2009 07:59AM) (new)

Liz M If you are trying to find out if a specific author is a good reads author, it says "goodreads author profile" in the upper right-hand corner of their profile box. If you want to read a book by a goodreads author, use the "main" view for your bookshelves & look on your to-reads shelf for Chimera, The Selfish Gene, Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books. Goodreads authors will have a * after their name.

Cynthia I have a question about this task as well. I asked this on the task thread but no one has answered, is any former task fair game or does it have to be one that's I completed & claimed points for?

Thanks in advance! ;)

Any task from a former challenge that was worth 15+ points counts - it doesn't have to be one that you had previously done (otherwise new participants wouldn't be able to do the task).

Thanks.

I'll take it - though I've read both books and in both cases I found the movies better which is rare for me (either I like both equally or find the book better).

Thanks, Cynthia. I'll be reading the second one. I've seen the movie, haven't read the book, so I'll lower my expectations. :-) The difference probably has a lot to do with the comedic acting. I still laugh when I think of Firth and Grant fighting in the fountain.

apple (apple_cinnamon) | 5 comments Hi Cynthia:)

I have a question about the color task: Winter Can Be Drab, Cold, And Bleak. Read A Book With A Bright Or Happy COLOR Word In The Title. ACCEPTABLE WORDS: Red, Green, Purple, Yellow Etc., NOT ACCEPTABLE: Black, White, Gray Or Brown Tones

I'm planning to read a Japanese book with English title called "Sky-blue Hitchhikers" and was wondering if you would consider "Sky-blue" to be a happy color?

Thank you!

Carrie (goodreadscomkeridwynn) | 185 comments Hi Cynthia,

If I missed seeing this question answered elsewhere, my apologies. I have a question about the title for the group read selection, the Stupidest Angel, the part about the title that has Version 2.0. Do we need to specifically read the book which has "Version 2.0" in the title? I found a copy at the library here in Texas and started reading it (but had to return it before I could finish) and was going to pick it up back in Ohio, but the copy available from that library doesn't have the Version 2.0 in it either.

Thanks!

No it's not to late to join in - you can join in at anytime during the challenge and any book you have read during the course of the challenge (in this case December/January/February) counts it doesn't matter when you joined.

If it's not an autobiography of someone that I admire then it would NOT work at all for the task, right?

I'm thinking of using one of the books for the Odd Man Out task. :)

Question about 35.2 DONNA JO'S TASK - GOING ON A WINTER VACATION
A. Pick One Of The Following: 1)Ski Trip, 2)Warm Beach, 3)Cozy Fire, 4)Sleigh Ride, 5)Tropical Island, OR 6) Northern Lights.
B. Read Two Books For This Task; Each Must Have A Word In The Title Of The Vacation You Chose (I.E., Ski Trip Might Be Ski Weekend By R.L. Stine And A Trip With A Tycoon By Nicola Marsh).

I'm going to use Philip Pullman's Northern Lights, which match choice 6. For the second book, is it ok if I use either this book's title in USA, Golden Compass or British's title Northern Lights?

message 286: by Donna Jo (new)

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments You can go ahead with the British title if that's what on the actual book you're reading.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments I have a question on task 5.9 Isn't It Romantic? It says I can read a book with Jewelry on the title. If I have a title with the word Ring in it is that okay since a ring is a piece of jewelry. Also on task 30.10, is gold considered a happy color? I was thinking of reading "The Golden Compass"

I try to update the readerboard at least once a day sometimes several times a day depending on if I'm working or if I have other things to do - but if you look at the top of the board it says what post I've updated through.

Amanda (writers_soul) Hi I just have one more question about the reader board.
I know there are a lot of Amanda's in this group and I looked on the reader board and for 65 points (The number of points I have) there was an Amanda US and I am pretty sure that is me and you just put US for united states, so you could tell the differences of the Amanda's? (Sorry is this message was confusing)

If you could please clarify this it would be most appreciated:)

Yes you are currently listed as Amanda US on the readerboard as your profile didn't list what state you live in. Basically I keep a running list of everyone who has ever participated in the challenge and how I've had them listed and in 5 seasons I've had 8 different Amanda's so it does get a bit complicated. If you would rather be listed another way that's fine just let me know.

It's perfectly fine that way:) I just was unsure if that was me because I have never done a challenge before. So thanks for the clarification:)
