Thanks, Cynthia. I'll look for something. Does anyone have any ideas concerning a who done it type mystery. I was thinking The Shadow of the Wind. Does that work? I have been wanting to read it! Thanks.

message 59: by Amy (new)

Amy Does anyone know of any novels that would fit for Canasta which is one of my favorite games? I also love Uno, Sequence and Backgammon so I'd be open to something that would fit with those as well!

I LOVE Sequence as well. I'm interested to see if some titles pop up for that game.

Cheating at Canasta Stories
Goldfinger
Lucky in the Corner A Novel

message 62: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyauer) | -58 comments My favorite game is Uno. Would it be ok to read a book with One in the title? or does it have to be Uno? If not, Any ideas?

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1332 comments Jenilyn wrote: "My favorite game is Uno. Would it be ok to read a book with One in the title? or does it have to be Uno? If not, Any ideas?"

Uno is one is Spanish so how about Spanish fiction with the word one in the title
One Hundred Years of Solitude
No One Said a Word A Novel
Only One Thing Missing
No One Will See Me Cry

message 64: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyauer) | -58 comments Oh, good idea Cynthia. Thank you!

message 65: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments I haven't finished The Shadow of the Wind yet but it didn't strike me as a who dunit like Clue. There certain is mystery involved. But I think...who dunit is more similar to Murder She Wrote.

But I think that would be up to Cynthia to decide. I could be wrong since I haven't finished SotW.

message 66: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1332 comments The Shadow of the Wind - wouldn't really work.

You could always go with a book with the word clue in the title such as...

A Clue for the Puzzle Lady
Get A Clue
Minerva Clark Gets a Clue (YA)
The Unfinished Clue
The Dark Clue A Novel

Sure

message 69: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 30 comments Thanks Cynthia. I guess I wasn't clear that it should be a murder mystery for Clue (duh!). Would any of the following work:A Judgment in Stone by Ruth Rendell or Alias, Grace by M. Atwood or The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo or Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk? Thanks again.

Has anyone chosen to use scrabble or Monopoly and found any good books for those games? Those three were always the favorites in my house growing up.

Melissa-

I'm a Monopoly fan, reading A House for Mr. Biswas by V.S. Naipaul. I don't know if it's good though. It's a "time to get it of my TBR list" read, for me. I've tried to read it a couple of times and haven't gotten past the second page, but I'm gonna try it again!

Cynthia okayed it on the basis that it is about acquiring real estate, so I would assume any book about trying to buy a house/building would work.

message 71: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 30 comments Katie, Thanks for the advice and I'll check that book out.

A Judgment in Stone - yes
Alias, Grace - not really
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo - yes
Haunted - no

Bunny wrote: "ok, so my very favorite board game is scrabble... any suggestions?"

Word Nerd - When some bullies at his new school almost kill him by slipping a peanut into his sandwich, friendless nerd Ambrose, forced to be home-schooled by his overprotective mother, coerces his neighbor Cosmo into taking him to the West Side Scrabble Club, where people accept him for who he is.

A Stranger in the Earth A Novel - Arriving in London to work for his great uncle at the local newspaper, Horace Littlefair is unprepared, overdressed, and underpaid for what awaits him when he is hurled into a world of love, racism, blackmail, political intrigue, and Scrabble, where disaster follows his every step.

message 74: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 30 comments Thanks Cynthia. I'll read one of the two books you said yes to:)

message 75: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (sureshot26) | 745 comments The ultimate Scrabble book, IMO, is Stefan Fatsis's Word Freak Heartbreak, Triumph, Genius, and Obsession in the World of Competitive Scrabble Players. It's very funny, and if I didn't have a personal thing against rereads, I would use it myself.

message 76: by Valorie (new)

Valorie | 817 comments I don't really play a lot of games. I play Hungry, Hungry Hippos with my niece a lot, its her favorite game. Will that count for The Hunger by Susan Squires? or Sometimes I play Texas Hold em or Slots online. Will High Stakes by Erin McCarthy work?

message 77: by Katie (new)

Katie (katieisallbooked) | 260 comments Wow. This one is tough for me. My favorite "game" is EA Active for the Wii. Would a non-fiction book about exercise work here?

Farkle is the only other game I play regularly, but I'm coming up with nothing there.

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) | 458 comments Okay so my favorite game is Scattergories where you have to list different objects that start with the letter you rolled. My question is could I read a book that began with A is for... or something like that?

I assume this is a version of Gin Rummy - going on that assumption here are a few books where that game is part of the plot...
Downers Grove
Kalooki Nights A Novel - Kalooki is another version of rummy

Rummy is also an adjective that means a drunkard so a book about an alcoholic would work.

Bonnie | 110 comments So, suggestions: my favorite video game is Zelda: Ocarina of Time and my favorite computer game is Challenge of the Ancient Empires (another Learning Company masterpiece). Challenge involves going around collecting artifacts from ancient temples in different parts of the world (Mesopotamia, China, etc). Oh yeah, and shooting laser beams from your hat! It was epic.

What kind of books can I read for them?

Temple
The Rosetta Codex

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments There is a series of The Legend of Zelda graphic novels.
Also, The Legend of Zelda and Philosophy by Luke Cuddy

(I really liked Challenge of the Ancint Empires--a game I could actually play decently.)

message 93: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie | 110 comments Thanks for the suggestions! And I love Zelda to pieces, but I can't believe someone actually wrote a serious book about it. Sometimes a game is just a game.

Anyway, considering the vein of the suggestions, could I use The Egyptologist A Novel?

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1114 comments Okay, so here I am, reading (errr... listening to) The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, and suddenly I hear "Chapter 5 - I Play Pinochle With a Horse"... DUDE! There's totally pinochle in this book! They play throughout the chapter and actually talk about bidding and melding and stuff! Then later two of the characters are playing again! Can I count it?

message 98: by Angie (new)

Angie (angelitabonita) My boyfriend has me hooked on this card game called Killer Bunniez. Could I read The Long Patrol by Brian Jacques? It's about fighting bunnies which is pretty much what the game is about, killing the other people's bunnies and winning all the carrots.
