Congrats!! How exciting! I will be sure to give you some tips tomorrow! I was just getting ready to go to bed and saw this and wanted to say congrats!!
thats awesome, where i live its pretty safe, but the area is expensive, and we are surrounded by bad areas, drugs and gangs to the north, south, east and west and i am here in the middle of the most expensive areas and violence free, so i think i am gonna stay with my parents until i can afford a place of my own here in Mountaintop, safe and sound....
First advice for renters. Take before pictures of every bit of damage. It will save a headache for when you move out and they try to stick you with the fixing bills.
How exciting! Enjoy your new place.

Such a good idea! Thank you!
Thanks for all the congrats! My roomie and I are so excited! 20 more days until we move!
Rutland is a pretty rough area but where we are living is a nice area and right next to the library! yayayay! :)
Then that brings up a second piece of advice: Libraries can be dangerous! Don't lose track of school related reading. :) Enjoy!

I would recommend asking around or find out if you know anyone who has rented there before just to get a feel of the landlord. Location is key too, next to a library is pretty awesome :)

I am planning to move next month and next week am planning an apartment viewing extravaganza. I've lived on my own before and moved quite a bit but everytime I was kind of rushed so I just chose the first one. This time I am actually taking some time to be picky, only problem is that I don't know what to be picky about and I foresee myself getting overwhelmed and forgetting important things so I am going to bring a list. This is where you gals and guys come in; what should go on the list? So far I've got laundry, lease, parking, paid utilities, heat...I know there are more any ideas?
A biggie is commute time to school, work, shopping, etc. Especially if there is public transportation to factor in. Almost as important as parking.
Places also give you some type of vibe. Usually a first impression. Go with one that you are okay with, like or even love. If you hate it right off, even if everything else it okay, that could be a hard place to live.

Just wanted to share my exciting news with all my GR buds! My roommate and I have just gotten an apartment off campus! This is our first place on our own that is not on campus and we are both REALLY excited for it!
For all of you that are living on your own now, or even those that arent, I am wide open to tips and suggestions on what kind of things are essential to my living-alone experience, decorating tips, moving tips, etc.
Thanks guys!
