message 2: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments I have two book club novels that'll happen during this challenge. But I am not sure how either of them fit. Challenge Winner's, I haven't looked at your 5-Star Lists to see if these are listed!

The Omnivore's Dilemma
and
The Education of Henry Adams

Help please :)

message 3: by El (new)

El Could you fit either one or both here?

9. OUT WITH THE OLD & IN WITH THE NEW BOOKS
A. Read The Book That Has Been On Your TBR Pile/Shelf The Longest.
AND
B. Read A Book Written By An Author You Have Never Read Before.

message 4: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments Could fit with B. The A task is set as another book. Heh. It was on there longer.

Thanks El. That's one down!

message 5: by Liz M (new)

Liz M The Omnivore's Dilemma: Do you have any new year's resolutions about eating healthier? Or living in a more ecologically sustainable fashion?

You could look through the five star reviews to see if any of the reviewers live in a "T" (or other initial) country.

message 7: by Jennifer (last edited Nov 11, 2009 08:14PM) (new)

Jennifer (jml_417) I REALLY want to read Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger. I was trying to fit it into task 10.4 (Winner's Choice), but so far, it doesn't look promising. I'd really appreciate some other suggestions.

Just FYI, I can't fit it into the Old/New task since I've read The Time Travellers Wife.

Thanks!

I'll try really hard to finish the challenge for you! :o)

Cait (caitertot) | 648 comments If anyone can think of a place for me to put A Good Man Is Hard to Find and Other Stories by Flannery O'Connor, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have already read some of her other works, so I can't use it for a new author.

Ok, thanks! lol

I'm trying really hard myself to finish the challenge! If I do, The Lost Symbol will fit for Tammy. ;)

Jennifer- Audrey Niffenegger was born in June 1963- so she's year of the Rabbit for 5.7 Does the zodiac sign fit?

message 14: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments I figured out my two books since Jan made her task as - fits any other challenge. YAY!!

message 15: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments I bet if you go to the library, you'll see it's on the recommendation list. I saw it at mine! - fearful symmetry.

You could use it for Wendy's dream vacation task if you would like to vacation in London.

You could also use it for the Dirty Job task if you couldn't imagine yourself working in a cemetery.

Cait (caitertot) | 648 comments Cynthia said (in the general questions thread) that for the Popularity Contest, "either the list for your month or the overall list is fine for everyone."

Her Fearful Symmetry (and I think The Lost Symbol) are both on that list.

Tammy, The Lost Symbol is a "5-Star" on Rachel Lee's list (Task 10.4 - Winner's Circle).

Now that we have BJRose's Snowed In task, you can fit anything in- as long as you get to 825 pages- It sounded like an overwhelming task until I realized it was really a 2-3 book free choice.

message 22: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments How about some classics? I'm going to relook my proposed list and see if I can exchange some for want-to-read classics.

So far I have: Catch-22, North & South, Diary of Anne Frank, Notes from the Underground, Ben Hur, A Christmas Carol, Flowers for Algernon, Around the World in 80 Days.

Any recommendations?

I think I read in a post in the help section that Flowers For Algernon can fit into the Sci-Fi task as the "older" sci-fi book, but you might want to check on that.

A Christmas Carol could work in 15.8 Silver Screen Celebrations - you could read it and then watch it (or another Christmas movie).

Any of the others could fit into BJ ROSE'S Task (total 825 pages) or they might fit into JAN THE GRYPHON'S Task (multi-tasking)

message 24: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments *giggles* Oh I meant I already have those classics on my list. I wanted to add OTHER classics but wasn't sure of any into the other tasks (sans BJ Rose one) :)

Flowers For Algernon does fit the first part of the Sci-fi task. That is what I plan to read.

If your chinese birth year is Monkey then Ray Bradbury will fit that task.

Thanks for the info Jennifer - I hadn't seen that!

message 33: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments Ask Cynthia to see if Gwenhwyfar The White Spirit works for fictional land b/c it takes the Arthurian myth but puts MAGIC in that world. It's iffy. You could read it for Bonnie's task (published in last decade) or the other for 825 pages at least.

message 34: by Literally (new)

Literally Jen (vampsita) Hopefully someone can help. I have 3 books I would like to try and fit into a challenge task. They are:

The Middle Place by Kelly Corrigan (note: this doesn't work for the red/white/blue task because her dress is more of a peach color than a red cover. It's sitting on my shelf, so I know up close and personal.)

Kelly Corrigan's website isn't working for me. If she is year of the Dog, she would work for the chinese zodiac task, but I remember not being able to find her birthday.

The Space Between Us A Novel by Thrity Umrigar

I also couldn't find this author's birthday anywhere.

Truly, Madly A Novel by Heather Webber

Any ideas on these?

Aside from BJ Rose's Task (Snowed in and loving it), where you can fit any book you want:
Truly Madly could be approved as a cozy mistery (you'll have to ask), for task 5.8
The middle place could fit part A (suspects, or colors) for Sarah Nicole's task (A game of clue, 25.3), since it has a blue cover.
And for The Space Between Us... do you want to go to India? It could be your dream vacation spot for task 30.6, Winter vacation dreams.
And remember that, if a book doesn't fit any 5, 10 or 15 point task, you can always read it for Abigail's task, Odd man out (25.5)

I'm sorry I couldn't find their birthdays either, but I hope this helped. :)

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments I have a book club book coming up that I want to include in this challenge. It is called "Istanbul: Memories and The City. The author is Orham Pamuk and he is a Nobel Prize winner and I was thinking I use that for a Winning Decade. I have to check on when the book was published. If it doesn't fit in that one, where else could I put it?

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments I checked the date and I can use the book for The Winning Decade. The author got an award in 2005.

I've already used a book in that one! It's rather upsetting really as there are so many of my favourite authors that I really want to use for that one!

Sophie, if you could let us know which tasks you've already completed that would help us find a remaining spot for the book. Thanks!

You can always put it in Task 30.3 B.J. R,ose's Snowed In and Loving It.

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) | 458 comments Does anyone know where End of Story or Clay would fit in?

message 44: by Krista (last edited Dec 22, 2009 07:46PM) (new)

Krista (kacey14) I don't know if you've used this task yet, but "Clay" would fit the one word portion of Michelle's Task. (Task 25.8 Part B)

You might need a ruling from Cynthia on this but I think that CLAY could also be considered a color. If so, it would fit Theresa's task 30.10.a

If you've never read a book by Fitzpatrick, then it would work for Task 15.9 Part B. It would also work for 30.1 Part A and 30.3.
