Suzanne (bellamy22) | 47 comments Donna, would you please explain how this works??? I have not tried one of these challenges yet!!?

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
Well this one is just to read a book with each letter of the alphabest. The, A, doesn't count. See above.

Some people even do the Last Name of the Author i.e.: I- Irving, John (any novel of his would count)

Does this make sense? I am not good at explaingin things LOL

message 4: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (bellamy22) | 47 comments Yes, perfect sense! Thank you ... Is this part of 'Everyone's Choice' or are we just individually choosing?

Do as you please. I am sure mine will change as we go but I am just stating what I am hopeful for! By all means create one of your own liking (you can even read some of what I am planning on so we can chat abuot it later X-D)

Well for H books I just brought 3:

The Hotel New Hamphire
High Fidelity
The Heart of the Matter

I like how we are reading some of the same books! I am going to try to read them in order but I doubt that would happen LOL

message 10: by Jen (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 339 comments Thanks for the ideas!I'll be looking into those. :) Yeah, I love the fact that we have similar books. While it would be fun to read them in order, I'm not going to make it. I have a few series-type books in my list, and I can't read them out of order... that just won't fly. However, let me know when you read ones that I have - I'll probably be able to swing it and read it with ya! :)

It will start in jan

message 12: by Jen (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 339 comments Yeah, I made this one to start in January. I figure that by then I'll be done with Shantaram, Pillars of the Earth,

message 13: by Jen (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 339 comments Yeah, I made this one to start in January. I figure that by then I'll be done with Shantaram, Pillars of the Earth, Oliver Twist, and hopefully a couple of other books. :) Shantaram is almost done... probably 25% left to go! I'm hoping to start Oliver this weekend. Yay!

I switched my I and K and I might actually read The Host because someone let me borrow it a long time ago and I think I should give it back LOL.

message 15: by Shelley (new)

Shelley (shelleylynn) | 11 comments Donna- The Host is really hard to get into.... I almost put it down many time... The first half of the book needs to be half of what it is and the last half needs to stay the same. It is an interesting concept if you can push to get into it.

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
I opened it at one point and got about 10 pages in and then put it down but I would like to make an attempt again.

message 17: by Jen (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 339 comments I started listening to the audio book of it, but couldn't make it past the first 15 minutes... the narrator was just so slooow and annoying. :)

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
OK maybe I won't LOL

message 19: by Jen (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 339 comments Okay, so I'm thinking of The Help for my H book, in addition to the three H books that Donna listed.

Also, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet A Novel is a great H book. If you're doing the challenge, it might be an alternative to The Host. :)

This may be kinda hard in 2011 simply because of X and Z books LOL. We have to just consider any book that has a Z or an X in it (ie: World WEar Z or American History X)

I keep switching around my books LOL I switched The Library Diaries (because my sister-in-law still has it) for Last Night in the Twisted River

message 22: by Jen (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 339 comments I've been switching mine quite a lot too. :)

I was going to try to go in order but then I realized that I want to wait until March 2010 to get the paperback of The Angel's Game and I also haave to read The Hunger Games before Catching Fire.

I will try as much as I can to go in order otherwise.

Donna, do we need to put down what we wanna read or what we have read as we read it?

message 25: by Donna, The Pusher (last edited Dec 09, 2009 12:26PM) (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
Either or. I am just planning ahead. You can do it as you go. I did it like that in 2009 (current).

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
OK. I am going to stop making changes in January!

message 27: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 300 comments I would like to try this challenge, but I wanted some clarification before I decide. Is it okay to skip around in the order? I don't think I would be able to read A-Z because, as Jenni mentioned, my reading of series books would prevent that.

message 28: by Jen (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 339 comments I don't think it's necessary to read the books in A-Z order, as it would be quite hard to read a series. That being said, it would make the challenge more challenging to read A-Z or Z-A. :)

message 29: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 300 comments Another question. Do we have to post our list at the beginning of the year and stick to those books listed, or can we just fill in the blanks as we read during the year. I started a list last night, but I am always changing my reading lists.

message 30: by Donna, The Pusher (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
Fill in the blanks! I didn't follow any rhyme or reason when I did the 2009 challenge. Just read as I went along and jsut tried to pick books that I may have missed in the alphabet. I am just being more reserved this time around but that's just me.

message 31: by Jen (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 339 comments My list isn't final either... my list is more of a reminder of books that I want to read - but it doesn't mean that I won't change my mind partway through. Also, some letters have a whole slew of books - which I probably won't make it through. :)

message 32: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 300 comments Thanks for the additional comments and info. I am definitely going to try this challenge for 2010.
