Dorie (dorieann) | 464 comments All of them, he's one of my favorite authors. His last two books were published only in the UK, and I'm in the US. I ordered them from Amazon UK. I hope he straightens out his US publisher soon, the shipping charges are killing me, LOL!

I'll dust this thread off... and say that I am about to buy (as in actually pay real money for...horrors!) a book for my eReader. I have always used the free things from Gutenberg and Librivox, but I will break down and purchase this months group read (The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie) and the sequel (The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag)!

I did't actually buy these books but I ran in to the library this afternoon *only* to return 2 books and pay my overdue fine and I came out with

Bruno, Chief of Police

The Gigolo Murder by Mehmet Murat Somer

Dead Beat by Val McDermid

The Case of the Missing Servant: A Vish Puri Mystery by Tarquin Hall

Beth | 408 comments Hi everyone,
I was at the Malice Domestic conference this weekend, and the booksellers there had gotten permission from the publisher to sell Nancy Pickard's The Scent of Rain and Lightning: A Novel pre-release. I snatched it up and had her sign it at the conference. I can't wait to start reading it!

I'm going to the Festival of Mystery in Oakmont, PA today before heading home, and in between selling my own mystery books there, I'm sure I'll be tempted to buy a few more titles from my fellow authors. I'm already eying L.C. Hayden's When Death Intervenes. Happy reading to you all!

Has her writing style improved?

I used to read her Jenny Cain series but it would take me at least 50 pages before I could get into her writing style. And I would forget this from book to book. Come the next book I would have the same problem again.

I finally broke my habit. And it has been years since I have picked her up.

Frankenoise After reading The Book of the Dead by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child I went out and bought Ice Limit, Terminal Freeze, and Brimstone. I have a busy couple weeks ahead of me! Such good books so far.

Last weekend was the semi-annual used book sale put on by the "Friends of the Library" at our local library. It is a very popular event in the area and draws huge crowds (who says reading books is dead) and I got 2 big bags of books for $20!

Oh it is. I love getting into a new author and then buying a bunch of his/her novels. Then coming home and smelling them...Mmmm. I'll never read books online.

The book Gods were keeping an eye out... a few mooches arrived today!

Crocodile on the Sandbank, which I can't wait to read again. I read it so long ago. I don't remember anything at all, so it will be like reading it for the first time!

Also The Quiche of Death, the first Agatha Raisin mystery, which is a new series for me.

I am SO bad about buying books! Find a new author, go hog wild gathering up everything s/he has ever written. The walls of my house are bulging! So, I went on a diet. (gasp!) My friend & I pledged not to BUY any books for 6 months. That ended April 1. And I didn't. (Of course I took books to the used book store, & used the credit to ... and kept my PBS account red hot with activity. But I didn't BUY any!) I let myself have a free month in April (boy! did I!) but aside from buying myself a Mum's Day mess of books for myself, I'm back on a 6 month moratorium. So's my friend.

But this afternoon I'm taking my credits & my wish list to a wonderful used book store up in the foothills ... (big evil grin!)

Hi Janice, I am a big fan of P. J. Tracy and I'm looking forward to the newest in the Monkeewrench series but I have a few other books ahead of it on the TBR pile including more of Louise Penny's books. I've read the first in the series and really want to read more. I hope you enjoy them.

I see you just finished The Girl Who Played with Fire. This will be our next group read and I hope you will join in the discussion beginning on the 15th.

Jan,
I've only read a few of the Jenny Cain books, but I enjoyed them. However, I feel that Nancy's latest two books are a definite step up from that series, with more literary writing, more suspense, deeper conflicts, etc. I highly recommend The Virgin of Small Plains: A Novel of Suspense as well as The Scent of Rain and Lightning: A Novel

message 21: by Rosabelle (new)

Rosabelle Purnama | 26 comments I love buying books too... My favorite genre is mystery - thriller.. There was a bargain at one of the local bookstore in Jakarta where I lived and I bought 7 books:
- Wish you well by David Baldacci
- Simple truth by David Baldacci
- Odd hours by Dean Koontz
- The darkest evening of the year by Dean Koontz
- Fearless Fourteen by Janet Evanovich
- Another thing to fall by Laura Lippman
- Say goodbye by Lisa Gardner

and I'm currently reading The girl who played with fire by Stieg Larsson.

Hi Rosabelle, I've been on a buying spree in the last few months at a number of benefit book sales for our local library plus I got gift cards for Mother's Day so my TBR pile has grown considerably too.

I haven't read any books by David Baldacci but I've heard good things about him. I've recently started the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich and really enjoyed it.

When you finish The Girl Who Played with Fire check out the discussion from our group read it was very interesting.

Rosabelle Purnama | 26 comments Hi Donna, I'm pretty much the same.. my TBR pile is huge LoL. In the place where I live, whenever I saw a book that i like at the bookstore, I have to buy it, because they only import a certain amount of quantity for that book and if I miss it, then I'm gonna have to buy them from amazon.com :)

I like david baldacci. my friend introduced me to a few of his books and i like his writing style and fast paced story.

I'll definitely check out the discussion once I finished. Thanks Donna.
