Pamela (pamela128) | 22 comments No matter the book I read, I tend to search for Fan Art to see what others see when reading. I admit I hold a tinge of jealously for those with the gift to create an image found in their thoughts. That does not in anyway hinder me from appreciating what is created by the stroke of a hand, connected to a stick of lead that ends up on a surface of choice.

I ask anyone with the skill, please let us enjoy your talent in this thread. Or anyone else like me,that has the magical ability to cut and paste links :).

I am currently reading Vlad Taltos series and have found very little in the way of fan art.
This is defiantly how I picture Vlad and Loiosh.

This is not how I picture Cawti. Great work though! Iwould think she has more dead ends and wild hair. I recall Vlad saying how he liked it when it was untamed.

Also I think of Castle Black as Dalaran (from World of Worldcraft. For the Horde!) Just a bit darker.

That's something I never thought of - looking for Fan Art of books we're reading. Might have to create a topic for that, for some of our next group reads. I agree that Vlad's portrait is pretty good.

I have an ARC of the forthcoming next book in the series, Iorich, and was saving it for a bit closer to the publication date, but after reading your posts I'm all excited to get to it sooner :)

Stefan meet my part-time acquaintance Jealousy.
Jealousy meet Stefan.
Jealousy glares at Stefan with squinted eyes of evil.

Tomorrow I will start the seventh book. By the start of next week I will be completed. Then mark on my calendar January fifth and look for another series to obsess over in the meantime.

I am a bit perturbed that the first person writing ceased with the start of the sixth book. First person always makes me feel like I am right there, invisible like Krager or perched in Vlad shoulder like Loiosh watching it all go down. I do see the need for it though and I do sense a heighten tension, mainly because, besides for healing, I am unsure of the role Savn and his sister play. Great series though! I don't know how you are sitting there with that book dangling in front of you and not opening it!

P.S I really hope this tread takes off.

This leaked the other day. Cover to The Black Prism. Wish there was more of a variation from his other books.

I enjoy both of these but the water colors kind of capture how gloomy Fitz's life was.

Pamela (pamela128) | 22 comments Kvothe! I think out of these, I favor the second one. Recently I was browsing Rothfuss’s site looking for Fan Art and got so caught up in reading his blog. He is too funny. But I realized that story has been lost in my brain somewhere so I need to re-read that book before The Wise Man's Fear comes out. I also realized that when I picture Kvothe he is always wearing a hooded cloak with wisp of red hair sticking out the sides.

Daughter of the Forest: I have this book on my to read shelve. I was about twenty pages in and bored BUT this picture kind of renewed my want to read it. I will give it another try! Beautiful picture!

Ahh I was going to save this for a while...

Pamela (pamela128) | 22 comments I am a huge fan of YA, primarily fantasy YA but YA nonetheless. So this post is for my favorite YA writer Tamora Pierce. She pens about strong, independent, morally conscious heroines usually fighting to live their lives as they see fit. Struggles that often smack teenage girls right in the face tend to be woven throughout her stories. She is a fantastic writer who knows how to tell a fun battle filled story.

My favorite series so far is
Trickster's Choice
Trickster's Queen

Ahh, this may be my favorite picture I have posted so far. This is Aly and Nawat. Nawat was once a crow turned human to protect and aid Aly in her quest.

Alanna The First Adventure
In the Hand of the Goddess
Lioness Rampant
The Woman Who Rides Like a Man

Aly's Dad George. Exactly how I picture him.

Alanna Aly's Mom.

She also created things called darklings. And they are as cute as my cats. Less furry though. Witty black blobs that can be used for spying.

Ahhh, there are so many more characters but my bed is beckoning. Enjoy!

Pamela (pamela128) | 22 comments The Abhorsen Trilogy Box Set by Garth Nix

I started this book over a year ago and it took me as long to get through the first 143 pages. Most of the time, while “scanning” the pages I was wondering how the hell this became an international best seller. For the first half of the book Sabriel was pretty much on her own, encountering danger here and there that I never really got a thrill out of. She meets up with a cat eventually who she is able to communicate with but still I was sailing in a steel tub on a sea of boredom. Until she meets Touchstone. At that point the book soared and even though there are parts I still choose to scan rather than read, it has turned out to be fairly engaging. I should complete book two this evening and I am excited about the third. Especially since I have read the last pages and can’t wait to find out how it all went down.

This series also started me thinking, since this was published in the states by Harper Collins Teen, what actually defines a young adult book compared to an adult book? Nix deals with some fairly heavy issues (re: suicide, depression etc) and at times it seems he gave solid justification for these thoughts. I understand that at the very least most teens brush these situations but I was nonetheless surprised to see this series was classified as YA. Not to mention, they are all teens for a brief time in the series but most of it takes place when they “mature”.

On to the actual reason for the post, FAN ART!! This series was dark and gloomy all around, it’s almost as if I see this series in a sepia tone. The pictures created in my head were dull, no matter the scene. Red and gold seem to be the predominate colors and even those had little spark and remained diluted. Almost forgot, The Abhorsen wears a blue surcoat, again it was a muddled blue rather than brilliant.

Holy Shit! Absolutely LOVE this!Lirael and the Dog. Sameth and Mogget

Pamela (pamela128) | 22 comments I originally found this series in the Fantasy section at B & N. When I went to Books a Million, I found this is Christian Fiction. If you knew my religious standing, you would laugh. What I am trying to say and with hopes this fan art it will entice some of you to pick up this series, it has become one of the most enjoyable reads I have ever had my hands on. Don’t be turned off by the books being seated in the Christian Fiction section. Those of you with children will be delighted in sharing this with them. There is not one lick of foul language, kissing is as deep as Paul dives into physical relationships and the characters are hysterical.

Enjoy!!
