15.3 - Now Appearing

Read TWO books, one from Book 1 AND one from Book 2

Book 1: Read a book that has been made into a movie (i.e. theatrical release). A book adaptation from a film also works.
Required: Provide a film reference with a link from Rotten Tomatoes or IMDb when you post.

Book 2: Read a book by an author who shares a FIRST or LAST name with one of these 100 All-time top grossing movie actors (source: the-numbers.com)
Here are the top 10: Samuel L. Jackson, Frank Welker, Stan Lee, Bob Bergen, Morgan Freeman, John Ratzenberger, Tom Hanks, Gary Oldman, Hugo Weaving . The rest of the list can be found here Top Grossing Movie Actors. Names must match exactly.
Required: State the name

OR

Read ONE book that fulfills both book 1 and book 2 requirements

A film scheduled to be released in 2015 would work as long as it is indicated on the reference record

We use the name as it appears on Goodreads

first names need to match first names, last names need to match last names- last names are names in the last position

When including the link formatting isn't necessary- copy and paste the film page url

Christine | 917 comments Just to clarify, would TV movie adaptations be acceptable for book one, or does it have to be a film that was released in theaters? Thanks!

message 7: by Katrina (new)

Katrina (katmcv) | 455 comments I was looking at Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson. The S in S.J. stands for Steve, and with Steve Buscemi on the list, does this work as a combined since Before I Go To Sleep was made into a movie, or does it have to reflect the name the author uses when published? I have no issue if this doesn't work, I'm sure I can find another option :)

it needs to be a theatrical release- not a tv movie

We use the name as it appears on Goodreads so the S doesn't work, but Emma Watson (#59) is on the list, so the book works

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 4448 comments Confirm this book satisfies both options:

The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham (Movie by same name came out in 1963 / author name matches John Ratzenberger)

Pia Do these combinations work?
The Hundred-Foot Journey by Richard C. Morais

The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1) by James Dashner
by James Dashner - matches James Earl Jones

The Silkworm (Cormoran Strike, #2) by Robert Galbraith
by Robert Galbraith - matches Robert Downey Jr.

A Most Wanted Man by John le Carré
by John Le Carré - matches John Travolta

Also, Ian Doescher for Ian McKellen.

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3683 comments Do plays count as books for the purposes of this task?

For example large swaths of Shakespeare have been adapted (eg Hamlet, Henry V, Coriolanus), and William is also the first name of William Fichtner.

I'm never completely sure of the rules for plays.

I have a question: Does the film already have to be released? For instance The Scorch Trials is being released as a film in September.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4046784/

If not, it's okay, I do have some other options. I just thought I'd ask. Thanks!

It was made into a TV released movie : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074518/?...

One of the author's names is James. The other's name is Jeanne. Jeanne doesn't fulfill the requirement but James does.

Farewell to Manzanar A True Story of Japanese American Experience During and After the World War II Internment by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston
