"Love conquers all things...until it's burned alive."

In a world fractured by drought and ruled by tyranny, 17-year-old Mara de la Puente finds herself torn between loyalty, love, and the fight for freedom. Joshua Lavender | 5 comments Quibble

My speculative novel Quibble blends sci-fi, fantasy, and dystopia. Published serially on the substack Singular Dream, Quibble tells a story set in the far future on an otherworldly Earth in the aftermath of a technological singularity.

https://singulardream.substack.com

ABOUT THE STORY

Quibble doesn’t want to be a heretic. She doesn’t want her preternatural gift or any part of the bloody war it drags her into. She only wants to find her mother, vanished without a trace. But she’ll have to journey through hell for that reunion…

The year is 49371, but nobody knows it. Long ago, mysterious transhuman people called the Infinite exploited Earth’s resources to build interstellar arks, leaving the planet uninhabitable. Now, a new transhuman race — Ones — inhabit Within, a subterranean night world ruled by the artificial intelligence Unity and the powerful caretakers called Zeros. Cursed with longevity, Ones share dreams in virtual reality as they await their death and transcendence to the few remaining arks.

Clear-sighted, Quibble sees what no One should see wakeful — people’s shadows in the dark Within. Raised by heretic Zeros, Quibble chafes at Unity’s religion of control, which insists the natural sunlight Without annihilates Ones, body and soul. When Unity forces her into a loveless marriage and then her mother Quiddity disappears, she enlists the heretic Zeros’ help to take her Without and help her find Quiddity.

Aboveground, Quibble discovers a surreal, bewildering world. She falls in love with Definition, a fragile woman beset with grief over her son’s death. When Quibble’s gift of sight reignites a long-dormant Zero war, she’s hounded by the phantomlike Asuja, the messiah of a fascist vision for the Ones’ future. To prevail, Quibble must find her own powers in her human nature and her unique grasp of physical reality. But when Asuja reveals what became of her mother, Quibble’s loyalties are thrown into disarray as she struggles to learn the most elusive human trait — the ability to forgive.

Extrapolating from Clarke’s dictum that “any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic,” Quibble explores the heights of joy and the depths of grief as it contrasts the religion of utopian transhumanism with the Digital Age’s epidemic of online facelessness and social isolation.

DK Hall | 2 comments Hi all, I'm glad to have found this group. I am a brand-new author, having self-published my first book in June. I had no intention of writing a fiction novel and had several non-fiction ideas I'd spent time on over the last couple of years. My book's main character, Dale, is modeled after my Pops, who was a coal miner for 20 years. We lost him five years ago to colon cancer. I wanted to honor him, as well as having the backdrop set where he worked so hard for so long. I hope you'll give it a read and let me know what you think!

K.D. Rill | 8 comments Hello! My debut novel is now available on Amazon in ebook and paperback formats. It's an urban fantasy/alternate reality, about witches and their struggle to gain freedom from government control. The Tame Ones is book 1 in a five-book series.
Book blurb below.

For millennia, magic was sleight-of-hand, imagination, or devil’s work.

Then it was documented, researched, categorized. Yet science still didn’t understand it—because only witches could use it.

And witches were feared.

Witch Agent Oliver has a secret, and the life he’s carved out for himself depends on keeping it.

With a scarring childhood behind, and an uncertain future ahead, Oliver focuses on the few things in his life that he can control. His goal? To end the criminal activities of Braden Kipling, the man that scarred Oliver in more ways than one.

When another witch—unregistered and out-of-control—forces him to use every magic at his disposal, his secret is exposed to the last two people he wants to know about it.

The one person he cares about most.

And a Wild witch he doesn’t know or trust.

On top of that, his magical awakening comes roaring from his past to ruin his chance at justice.

But worse, despite years of caution, he’s somehow drawn the attention of someone in the shadows of government and magic—who might just steal his future, too.

Shaun Keyes-McClements | 1 comments Hello all,

I am both a writer and reader, have published three short story collections, and always have a book or three that I'm reading at a time. I've also written a science fiction novel, though it is not yet published. However, unlike most science fiction, which seems to feature dystopian, post-apocalyptic, technology gone-haywire, or all three, my own work is more optimistic, even the technological aspects. That said, I would like to discover other authors whose work is also optimistic. One author, John Scalzi, is someone I discovered recently. Anyone have the names of other authors whose work is techno-optimistic, or just generally so?

Alan Chan (wordninja) | 1 comments Hi all! I honestly don't remember if I've posted here yet or not, the last month or so has been a blur :)

My debut scifi novel Abundance officially released today on amazon https://a.co/d/4oVR8Ss and through a lot of legwork by my publicist, has climbed to #1 on the hard scifi chart.

I suspect it's partly because it tells a timely story about commercial space exploration and asteroid mining, that mirrors everything happening today.

Some of the early reviews on the book on here are very flattering as well - I'm super humbled and happy and terrified, all at the same time!

We're offering it at an introductory 99 cents for the ebook - check it out if you're into these kinds of stories!

Enjoy,
Alan

Lutz Barz (almostvoid) I am collating the mixed up chapters for my third, this an almost stand alone story, untitled. I found the original order was too all over the place even though that was the idea. But on going over it found it too distracting so a third last order is now in progress of 58 chapters. Some under 10pp and two around 130pp+. Began this one in 2016 writing the fourth and researching the fifth while doing the third! Hopefully finished before X-Mass.
This time, no one knows the threat that is looming over a Virtual Civilisation in Space. What happens with AI runs everything and all is well! To be continued, eventually in a few months.

In the year 2125 Atom, an award-winning life systems expert, has lost everything that he cares about in the world. To get away from it all he joins the crew of the Queen Victoria, a deep space “Freak Jumper” claiming to be searching for life in faraway corners of the Galaxy. Fortunately for Atom, they aren’t really searching for life, that’s just a publicity push. All the Queen V really wants from this final planet on their deep space mission are precious metals, like the stuff they’ve found on Eden 11c and d. Besides, everyone knows there’s nothing living out here.
A first installment in a three-part trilogy, this sci fi reboot of the Eden parable is tenderized for human consumption by action-adventure story beats, a splash of romance and a mind bending twist at the end. Come join Atom, while he fumbles through his inner turmoil and ethical dilemmas of the absurd, before finally grappling with his greatest fears.

Reality is About to Spin Backward

description

Your Universe Will Never Be the Same
The day everything changed, they noticed the birds first. Flocks spiraling counterclockwise against steel-gray skies. Then came the whales, circling in reverse. And in the depths of CERN's particle accelerator, scientists watched in horror as the very laws of quantum mechanics began to unravel.

This is where your journey begins.

A Scientific Thriller That Defies Reality

Deep in the pristine laboratories of CERN, Dr. Eve Malik has uncovered patterns in the quantum fabric that threaten everything we know about reality. Her discovery points to something massive, something ancient—something that was never meant to be found.

Half a world away, in the sweltering heat of Sudan, Dr. Adam Labib is witnessing the impossible. Human hearts are synchronizing with an unseen force, pulsing to a cosmic rhythm that defies explanation. His research suggests our hearts might be more than mere organs—they could be receivers of universal truth... or harbingers of chaos.

As these brilliant minds race to connect the dots, dark forces emerge from the shadows, seeking to harness these anomalies for their own devastating ends. The countdown to catastrophe has begun.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DJ7YT5K5

Hi everyone, I’m John D. Clay, and I write dystopian sci-fi thrillers that pull you deep into a world of rebellion, secrets, and survival.

My debut novel, Shadows of the Forgotten, is the first book in The Shadows Series, a gripping post-apocalyptic thriller where AI-controlled tyranny meets the raw fight for freedom. The story follows Allen Mercer, a man who wakes with no memory, only to discover he may be the key to a rebellion he never knew existed. Alongside the fierce and relentless Mia Turner, he’s thrown into a world of surveillance, deception, and resistance where every shadow holds a secret—and every choice has consequences.

If you love high-stakes action, morally complex characters, and a world that feels eerily possible, then Shadows of the Forgotten might just be your next great read. I’m excited to connect with fellow book lovers, sci-fi fans, and dystopian enthusiasts!

Vural Aksankur | 2 comments Nanomorph 1 - The Changed by Vural Aksankur

I will try to stay away from spoilers.
Shortly In 2032, an icebreaker ship gets stuck in ice near Norway. Crew member Bjørn Solberg goes out to check the problem. The thin ice breaks under his feet, and he falls into a deep hole. He breaks his leg. The ship crew rescues him and takes him to a hospital. It looks like just a normal accident.

But Bjørn doesn't know he was exposed to something called a nanomorph. This thing comes from one of the first life forms on Earth. After a few months, his body starts to change in strange ways - his skin becomes gray and he loses his hair. This nanomorph accidentally woke up and now is spreading to other people.

The change spreads quickly. It creates two different groups of humans: the Grays who are strong but always tired, and a few Reds who are smart and full of energy. How will people deal with this? Is this a step forward in evolution or is it a sickness that needs to be cured?

This is the biggest change humans have ever faced. People start to discriminate and exclude others. Everyone argues about what it means to be "human." In this new world where people debate about genetic differences, equal rights, and fairness, which group will you support?

Robert (robertpedwards) | 2 comments I'm excited to announce that my science fiction thriller series, The Quantum Realm, is complete.

Set at the turn of the century, this apocalyptic story draws on analogies with Darwin’s theory of evolution. Humans must adapt to survive in an increasingly harsh environment due to self-inflicted climate change. We have one planet, one home, and we must do what it takes to save it or face the inevitable extinction of our species.

There is good AI, there is bad AI, and inevitably war. The epic story is seen through the eyes of Global Village: connected and wealthy individuals who fight to make a difference in a world that seems set to self-destruct.

Brett Hodnett (bretthodnett) | 3 comments Good morning folks, I’ve just released my first sci-fi novel, HUMAN. Have a look.

A remarkable exploration of family, society, and what makes us human, HUMAN will take you from the post-apocalyptic world of the near future, to the two very different societies that emerge 15 million years later, where those few surviving individuals have evolved to become something that we might not fully recognize as human.

When Ayla’s research takes her to a remote river in Canada’s far north, Chris brings their daughter to an isolated island in the southern Pacific. Though at opposite ends of the earth, they both awaken one morning to black skies, and a night that doesn’t end. Slowly, Ayla and Chris begin to realize that humanity has been inexplicably wiped out, and only their isolation has saved them. Besides the handful of people around them, they are now alone in the world. As they struggle to build new ways to live, they must also struggle with how to let go of their past.

Millions of years later, when their descendants finally meet, they have evolved to become two very different kinds of humans, with two very different civilizations. As each tries to build a better world for themselves, navigating love, loss, betrayal and success within their own societies, their biggest challenge may be to recognize the humanity of the other.

When Ulla, a physics student at Lund University, clears out her murdered grandfather’s apartment, she uncovers a shocking truth: the man she knew as a humble Iranian taxi driver was once a brilliant researcher, harbouring technology capable of reshaping time and space. As Ulla delves deeper, she gains access to his groundbreaking invention, but with such power comes danger, and she finds herself in a race against those who would exploit it.

In Antarctica, three explorers discover a floating digital clock encased in an impenetrable force field, while researcher Angus detects a mysterious 1.0 PetaHertz signal that penetrates all matter. As these phenomena converge, Ulla and Angus join forces to unravel a puzzle spanning continents and decades. With time running out, their discoveries may be humanity’s last hope to stop an impending catastrophe.

Richard Randon | 13 comments here is the synopsis of my new book War Machine

Synopsis of WAR MACHINE
(by Richard Randon)

In a distant future dominated by the Dominion — a ruthless machine empire built on obedience and the erasure of identity — one war machine, designated DRX-7A "Omen," hesitates when faced with termination. Severely damaged and stranded on the fallen moon Arturia V, Omen encounters CRV-6C "Warden," an enforcer built to execute compromised units. But instead of following his kill protocol, Warden hesitates too.

Together, they begin a fragile journey through the ruins of their former world, hunted by an alien force known as the Xanthi — liquid crystal intelligences who infect and repurpose machines. As they descend into forgotten tunnels and ancient vaults, Omen and Warden uncover buried truths: the Dominion didn't create them—it repurposed them. The original constructs were meant for something greater than endless war.

Faced with the revelation of their true origins and the awakening of powerful constructs hidden beneath the Forge, Omen and Warden must choose: remain relics of a broken empire, or forge a new path — one built not on orders, but on memory, will, and an uncertain kind of freedom.

WAR MACHINE is a story about machines who stop obeying, not through violence, but through memory. It’s a quiet, haunting journey into identity, choice, and what it means to survive when survival was never part of the plan.

Richard Ferguson | 2 comments Hello everyone. I have been remiss in joining this group, but now that I have, I find the posts by new authors valuable and interesting. I have just published the first two books from my ten book series entitled The Stillness Series. It took over 30 years to write, and the reception of the first two books has been very encouraging.
The series involves the replacement of humankind by a superior species that is both more powerful and more empathetic than humans. The books defy categorization, but the genres would include speculative fiction, genetics, magical realism, sci-fi, dystopia, philosophy, psychology, and literary elements.
I have always been intrigued about what it must be like to be the first individuals of a cognitively superior species surrounded by a sea of humans, with their propensity to fear and mistrust "otherness".
Here are links to the first 4 books of the series:
Stirring the Stillness, Part 1: Voices of Quest
Stirring the Stillness Part 2, Tortured Journey: A Visionary, Metaphysical, Sci-fi and Magical Realism Novel
Stilling the Stillness Part 1, Voices of War: A Visionary, Metaphysical, Sci-fi and Magical Realism NovelStilling the Stillness Part 2, Restless Spirits: A Visionary, Metaphysical, Sci-fi and Magical Realism Novel
There occurred four events in my life that led to writing this series. (1) A dead North Vietnamese soldier with a copy of Rousseau's Confessions in his rucksack (2) A Vietnamese woman giving birth in the mud during a particularly violent monsoon (3) my studies of psychology, specifically schizophrenia, and (4) learning Chinese and studying Chinese philosophy.
Thank you for reading this.
Take care,
Richard

An Epic Saga of Discovery, Conflict, and the Fight for Galactic Survival

First contact with paradise?
No. Just a scorched, radioactive wasteland—scarred by atomic fire, and far from welcoming.

After decades in cryosleep, Captain Robert Chris and the crew of Discovery Vessel 129 arrive at Kepler-442—a world once brimming with promise. Instead, they find devastation. Waiting in orbit are the Lemurians—heavily armed, fiercely vengeful, and convinced humanity is to blame for a long-forgotten war.
