The first two books in the Sovereign Spirit Saga follow the adventures of a group of survivors aboard a mega yacht, the "Sovereign Spirit", as they sail through the Zombie Apocalypse. An apocalyptic science fiction adventure set in a horror genre, the Sovereign Spirit Saga, while full of blood, guts and terror, is more about using your brains than eating them. Think Battlestar Galactica meets the Walking Dead and you will have some idea of the plot line.

The cons I attend are aimed more at readers, though there are media elements as well. Never been to a Trek convention (so far), but people I know who have done so seem to have a lot of fun.

I'll give any venue a try, if it allows me to promote my books! :-)

She’s just about given up all faith in humanity until she happens upon a girl left alone to fend for herself. The girl fulfills Valentina’s yearning to be a mother and she vows to protect her. Sounds much WORSE than the Black Plague to me. Just semantics, but thought I should point it out. I would have said something like, "Ninety-five percent of the world’s population perishes in a pandemic that makes the Black Plague look like a common cold."

Just saying... But I am intrigued and will add it to my TBR. Good luck with it!

Cary Neeper (cary_neeper) | 16 comments A Place Beyond Man: The Archives of VarokThis first-contact story and its related books, coming soon, are set in an alternate 21st Century solar system, where the aliens are too savvy, too attractive and live too close to ignore. More problems? They think they have all the answers we need. This book, first published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1975, was re-released as an Author's Guild Backinprint.com Edition last year, and it's sequel THE WEBS OF VAROK will be out soon by Penscript Publishing House.

Curran | 12 comments Hi everyone,
my name is Curran Geist. I am new to this list as well as NEW to self-publishing! I recently self-published my first ebook (novel) THE SITY, and I wanted to share it with all of you. It's a mix of different genres, including science fiction/horror/fantasy.

Below is a brief description of the ebook. If you are interested, you can also check out a portion of the novel on my goodreads author page and you can read the first chapter on Amazon.

Blurb:
In this action-packed science fiction tale of survival and vengeance, two young humans seek to fight back against the oppression of an alien race, the Kuljik, who rule the realm. Dangers and unspeakable horrors lie around all corners of the Sity; a harsh, violent place where humans are freaks and “toys” for the pleasure of the aliens. Victor and Carina – both blessed with mysterious powers – represent humanity’s best hope to escape. But to do so, they must first overcome their personal demons to unravel the mysteries of their past and forge the destiny of their futures.

Victor, whose memory is damaged from months of torture and enslavement, searches for his lost family. Carina, haunted by strange visions, seeks to discover her true identity. Through their adventures, they learn that sometimes the truth should remain buried. Sometimes the only solution is kill or be killed.

Can friendships, community, and even love survive in the darkest of worlds?

Dreams are dashed, nightmares are realized, and vengeance is dealt in this novel by author Curran Geist.
______
The ebook as is available for $2.99 at http://www.amazon.com/The-Sity-ebook/... and http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-s...

Thanks and good luck to all of you!

Richard Sutton (richardsutton) | 198 comments

My third novel is a novella length, thinking persons' tale in a scifi setting. It's called Home. Here's a recent review (that I didn't pay for, or sock-monkey)from author Steve Bartholomew --

"Home" is a thoughtful metaphor about the phenomenon of immigration and the clash of different cultures. The author might have chosen to relate a story of Eastern Europeans immigrating to America during the 19th Century. Instead, his story takes place in the far future, with pilgrims from a depleted Earth traveling to a new planet. They are welcomed and helped by some of the natives, but despised by others. The discovery of a common DNA leads inevitably to inter-species romance with equally inevitable stresses and trials. Somehow people make do and survive. This is not a Star Wars tale, with ray guns and interplanetary blasters. Rather, it is a story of quiet struggles within, to come to grips with our own natures. A unique accomplishment.

I hope you'll give it a read. It's available in print from B&N and Amazon as well as Kindle from Amazon and all eBook formats from Smashwords.com

Alex Albrinck | 20 comments Hi everyone! I'm new to the group, but I'm always on the lookout for new science fiction authors and books to try out. Massimo, your book sounds very interesting and I've added it to my ever-growing list of books to read. :)

I'm also a new author with the first book in a series out on Amazon. It's science fiction/high tech, with some elements that would probably push it into speculative fiction or fantasy. It follows the story of a man who learns a killer is on the loose in his neighborhood as he's heading home from work. He arrives at his home in time to see an explosion and fire consume the building. He's seized and beaten by men who make it clear that this is punishment for his violating the laws of a secret organization he's part of. Problem is, he's not part of it, and had never heard of it. He gets rescued by a splinter faction of this secret group and finds out what they do, and why he and his family were wrongly targeted. With his knowledge and new skills, he has some difficult choices to make, with consequences he could never imagine.

In the beginning, we broke our word, and then came the lights.

Earth Day is a post-apocalyptic novella, combining science fiction with mystery while providing an unexpected twist to the popular alien invasion concept.

“In the aftermath of this unstoppable invasion by an invincible alien force, one survivor wants more than mere survival, Leonora "Lenny" Dixon wants answers. Why are the invaders here, and what do they want of us?”

Reassuringly, the novel has been professionally proofread and copyedited.

Available for Kindle in the UK and US.

Richard Sutton (richardsutton) | 198 comments Here goes...

My recently released novella, Home, received a review comparing it to Ray Bradbury's work. It floored me!

Home can be a battlefield...

A thought-provoking story in a scifi setting. Forty-two teachers, scientists, engineers and their children, have just completed a twelve year deep-space journey to escape the war and drought ravaged Earth. A carefully selected band of hardened survivors, they are to be colonists on the planet Nakis. Lying at the edge of the galaxy, it’s a new world that they hope will let them build a safe life together. Unfortunately, within two days, their ship, all their supplies, tools and technology are destroyed in an unforeseen melt-down of the crystalline core of their laser-driven vehicle.

Scrambling up to take shelter in a rough cave above the valley floor, those watching the melt-down find that survival will mean resurrecting the ancient technology and forgotten skills of their Paleolithic ancestors. If dodging the lurking predators isn’t hard enough, soon they discover the uninhabited planet they are marooned on, isn't exactly uninhabited. Nakis has not provided the home they had willingly traded their old lives for. They have been reduced to foraging for subsistence. No strength, no defenses and now: powerful, potential enemies waiting in the darkness.

Puramore: The Lute of Pythagoras

Greetings,

My sci-fi novel, Puramore - The Lute of Pythagoras, continues the social science fiction genre created by Aldous Huxley and George Orwell and others during the 1st half of the 20th century. Set in the context of antiquarian history, the book stands out as a truly unigue story representing one possible course of mankind's future.

You may also enjoy reading the section of my Goodreads Authors Blog entitled The Patricians (see http://www.goodreads.com/author_blog_...). It presents my discoveries in conducting personal antiquarian genealogical research.
