Ilene, Brandy and Val, Real Dogs with Real Tales Fine (httpgoodreadscombrandyandval) | 8 comments I'd like to introduce you to the world of BRANDY AND VAL, REAL DOGS WITH REAL TALES--books that entertain and delight children through simple tales about my two shelter dogs. Real, unstaged photos of the dogs in action and brightly colored pages captivate children’s attentions as they read about how the pups spend their day, what their favorite things are and how they were adopted. So, while they technically fall into the Non-Fiction category, especially the book about Brandy and Val's adoption called BRANDY AND VAL'S SPECIAL STORY, the other two stories are true but aren't quite that serious! Children can interact with plush toys that look like Brandy and Val as they learn about topics like friendship, caring for pets and being a family among others. Parents can feel good knowing they are helping animal rescues through their purchase of a Brandy and Val book and toy and they have a product their children will have fun playing with. Sandy (sandynathan) | 12 comments Hi. I'm Sandy Nathan. Tecolote: The Little Horse That Could The little horse's chances were not good. Born prematurely on a freezing night, the buckskin colt had to fight for his life. When he was still a baby, Tecolote lost his mother. Would he be able to find a horse to help him grow up and teach him the ways of the herd? Would he ever know a friend who would love and protect him?

Be with Tecolote as he masters the challenges that young horses--and young people--face as they grow up and become all they're meant to be. Tecolote: The Little Horse That Could will inspire children and adults alike.

Join Sandy Nathan as she tells a true tale of a young horse growing up straight and tall, a youngster who will remind you of the child in us all.

The illustrations in this book are snapshots taken while Tecolote's story was unfolding. In using snapshots, the author wanted to bring you as close to the action as possible and introduce you to the real Tecolote, Shambho, Rosie, and all the other horses of Rancho Vilasa. This truly is Tecolote's scrapbook--welcome to his world.

The book has excellent ratings on Amazon and has won three national awards. I was really pleased when it won 2011 Silver Nautilus Award for Children's Nonfiction (Gr. 1-6) The Nautilus Award recognizes books, audio books, and e-books that promote spiritual growth, conscious living and positive social change. The Nautilus Award recognizes distinguished contributions in adult, young adult, teen, and children's literature. Previous winners include Thich Nhat Hanh, Eckhart Tolle, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Barbara Ebel | 6 comments Hi everyone. I'm an author in TN who owns a Chesapeake Bay Retriever (and others) and the dog is also a therapy dog. The dog became popular and since I was an author, people asked if I could do a children's book about the dog.

Well, I did....and that turned into a series!

The books are unique because I use real photographs, the story is from the dog's point of view, and he inspires good behavior in children like sharing, learning rules, and being kind to others.

Take a peek. Chester is a love and there is more to the stories than meets the eye! (We'll be on The Author's Show in about 2 weeks).

Sue Bursztynski | 7 comments I'm the author of several non-fiction books for kids, five trade and two education, as well as chapter books and a YA novel. My most recent non-fiction book, published by Ford Street Publishing, is Crime Time: Australians Behaving Badly

I find that kids enjoy over-the-top and the stories about Aussie crime in this are as over-the-top as you can get. Only thing is, bookshops never seem to know what to do with non-fiction for children - this one ended up in the adult true crime section of most shops!

I am most interested in cover design & illustration for children's or ya books, but I review all kinds on my blog.

Please contact me if you need a review of your book or a cover design or illustration.

Thanks. I hope I end up with a ton of kids books.. LOL... I love children's books. Unfortunately so many people writing them also think they can design a cover & illustrate them... That's like me trying to write a book so I have something to illustrate... it might have cute drawings, but I bet it would be lacking in the writing department. I love children's books. I can remember what an impact different books had on me as a child & I have done a lot of reading about writing for children.

Please contact if you need a review of your book on Goodreads, my blog, Amazon, Smashwords, etc. or if you need cover design or illustration.

Great to be here.

"Toby's Tales" is a semi-fictionalized series that tells the story of a little boy named Toby's adjustments after sight loss. They're based on my own experiences with adjusting to life after losing my sight.

There are five books in the series:

2. Toby's Monsters
3. Toby's Outing
4. Toby's Games

Jan Hurst-Nicholson (janhurst-nicholson) | 271 comments Hi,
My latest children's book is both fiction and non-fiction (a librarian's nightmare!)

In line with Left-Handers Day on August 13th I have now published The Race: An Inspiring Story for Left Handers in paperback.
The Race An Inspiring Story for Left Handers by Jan Hurst-Nicholson

Vicky is left-handed and teased for being clumsy, but a visit from her Gran changes everything.

Vicky’s Granddad has died and her Gran is coming for a visit. Vicky wants to cheer her up by embroidering a cushion as a gift, but Vicky is left-handed and she struggles to learn how to sew. She decides that winning a race in the school sports might be a better idea – but can she do it, especially when Graham threatens to spoil all her plans?

The story highlights some of the challenges faced by left-handers.

At the end of the book is advice on how to help left-handers; how to tell if a child is left-handed; the correct way for a left-hander to hold a pencil and to slant the paper; famous left-handers; percentage of the population who are left-handed; career choices for left-handers and cultural issues for left-handers.

The schools are finding the book useful in their media centres

message 26: by Panisoara (new)

Panisoara (OPanisoara) | 8 comments The seven medals of success presents the adventures of two children who win, one by one, the medals of courage, cooperation, curiosity, patience, creativity, perseverance and empathy. In their journey they are accompanied by Memo, the dwarf of their memory; he reminds them certain events in their life and they learn the rules of each psychological characteristic.
The book contains stories for children about developing personal success skills and it is based on psychological and pedagogical studies. Every chapter of the book has a Parent's Corner, with a short description of the psychological concepts and exercises for developing each personal trait. Also, every chapter includes a poem because psycho-pedagogical studies demonstrate children learn easier by combining the linguistic and the „musical” intelligence.
We, the authors are university researchers and professors: G. Panisoara has a Ph.D. in Psychology and I.O. Panisoara has a Ph.D. in Educational Sciences.
The patience poem (fragment from the ebook)
Do you know Trici – the caterpillar?
She cried: her beauty was no thriller
But time marched on, as it went by
She turned to a fine butterfly
Here is why:
You want time to pass by quicker,
“I want to play now,” you dicker,
You want to grow up much faster.
But patience is what you must master.
If you have patience you will learn
To calm yourself and wait your turn
Step by step you will succeed
Patience is the thing you need.

Adrian Hawaleshka | 1 comments Hi
My name is Adrian Hawaleshka. Im a new member of the group. I've written my first children's story called 'The Chair by the Side of the Road'. It is a story about a boy, Luka, who just wouldn't stop growing. The people of Luka's village, fearing this boy-giant will ruin their village if he stumbled, build him a home in the woods and a chair by the road where he would wait for his friends. Luka was miserable sitting by himself but one day a big dog came along and changed everything!

This is a story of how it feels to be on the outside looking in... about the frustration that comes when you feel 'different'... and how the love of family can give you strength. Luka shows us that family can come in many forms... even in the shape of a humongous dog

Patrice Smith (realfoodisrealgood) | 12 comments Hello everone,
My name is Patrice Smith and I am the coauthor of the book
The Struggle: Mom and the Summertime Blues.

BLURB:
The story of four sisters:
Diamond
Shelia
Crystal
Felicity
who dread their summer break because of their mom. A timely and hilarious read told through the eyes and voice of adolescent authors about their perspective of Mom's summertime "fun".

Young readers will empathize with the youthful perspective of parents and "their ways".

Parents will enjoy reading about the feelings of the four girls in the story, nodding in agreement from the beginning to the end.

The entire family will enjoy this book. Instead of those great summer trips and long lazy days of summer, the four sisters complain about having to eat healthy and exercise, do homework and chores, and more. Throughout the book the girls tell of important life lessons taught by their parents. These lessons are told in a comical way.

I have always lived words, color and movement and my book "They Dared" is full of the things I love. The book highlights 18 contemporary African Americans that dared to make a difference and contribution to the sciences, arts, sports and politics. There are not many history books written about people of color designed for the early leaner, so there are few words and plenty of colorful pictures painted in bright, bold acrylics.

Danielle Clode | 2 comments Hi - I'm pretty excited to find a special sub-group for children's non-fiction. I mostly write adult non-fiction, but I have a couple of illustrated Australian fossil books which are popular with kids. The first one is on Australian megafauna (giant marsupials and goannas) - Prehistoric Giants: The megafauna of Australia. The most recent one is Prehistoric Marine Life of Australia's Inland Sea - which was a bit like the Western Seaway of the US and full of plesiosaurs and ichthyosaurs. When it dried up, the conditions were perfect for opalisation so many of the fossil are beautifully opalised. My next book will be for younger children and will be a picture book of Australia's most amazing fossils. http://danielleclode.com.au/

Lori | 3 comments Hi, I am very excited about my newly released picture book, No Place Like Earth. A child's dream takes us on a journey through space. She tries to find a planet to land on, but some are too cold, some too hot, some are just made of liquid and gas...only planet Earth is just right. It's an introduction to the planets for young kids, and also a reminder that we need to care for our planet. I wrote it because my daughter loves taking her rocket ship to space, but I couldn't find any books for her age (3). She has outgrown board books, and everything else, even other picture books, were too text heavy and advanced. This book is made for that 3-6 year old who loves space. There are beautiful images of the planets direct from NASA, fun rhyme, and basic facts about each planet. Learn more here: https://lorifettner.wordpress.com/no-...

Thanks, Danielle! My daughter is a bit young for it still, but it got some questions going for her. When I did a reading, I found that it was perfect for the 5 year olds in the room. It's tough to gauge unless you know kids very well, and even then, each kid is different.
