I do think I'll continue reading the series though. I'm curious to see how Turing and KingFischer will develop. :)

(Winner's Choice - 5 stars - Donna Joe's Shelf)

Swimming with Piranhas at Feeding Time My Life Doing Dumb Stuff with Animals by Richard Conniff (4 stars)

I wanted to find a lesser known book for this task, and I did. I have always been fascinated by animal behavior and the conservationists that study nature and fight to save all kinds of creatures. This book had stories of both. I especially enjoyed the fact that Coniff studied, what some may call, the unhuggables. The "work ethics" of ants, the transportation skills of spiders, and the timidity of piranhas, made for essays just as interesting as the stalking of leopards.

I finished 25.5, Abigail's Odd Man Out with
Spider Mountain A Novel

Action thriller set in North Carolina, hasn't won any awards, no qualifying names/titles/topics/readers, male author who is still alive and not an Ox, no recipes/tie-ins. The first of the Cam Richter books The Cat Dancers had a stronger plot, but this one had more surprises.

Interesting dedication- the villain in this book was named after a woman who won the honor of having a character named after her in a charity auction.

Four Spirits by Sena Jeter Naslund

[ If you read a book that is 500+ pages you will earn once chance for this task :]
Four Spirits has 524 pages :0)

I found Four Spirits on the "task help" list for 20.2. I love Naslund's writing style -- it makes you feel like you are actually there with the characters experiencing the 1960's Birmingham, Alabama Civil Rights clashes. The novel was a bit melodramatic, especially towards the end of the novel, but that's OK, it worked for this novel.

message 926: by Liz (last edited Dec 24, 2009 12:24PM) (new)

Liz (lizvegas) Cynthia I changed this book to 25.2

Read I Love You, Ronnie The Letters of Ronald Reagan to Nancy Reagan by Nancy Reagan.

This book is a collection of letters that were written by Ronald Reagan to his wife, Nancy, throughout their life together. It also includes Nancy's commentary on their relationship. Through the letters it was obvious how much Ronnie loved Nancy and that they were the best of friends.

Like Nancy Reagan, my best friend is also my loving husband. Friendship, to me, is a relationship with trust, open communication, empathy and intimacy. My husband, my friend, helps me to be the best person I can be.

My favorite friendship quote from Charlotte in Charlotte's Web :
"You have been my friend. That in itself is a tremendous thing. I wove my webs for you because I liked you. After all, what's a life, anyway? We're born, we live a little while, we die. A spider's life can't help being something of a mess, with all this trapping and eating flies. By helping you, perhaps I was trying to lift up my life a trifle. Heaven knows anyone's life can stand a little of that"

Read (2) Historical Books, Fiction Or Non-Fiction, From Different Time Periods Or Settings, Then Briefly Tell Which Time Period You Would Have Preferred To Live In. (For Purposes Of This Task, I Will Define A Historical Novel As Anything Taking Place Up To And Including WWII.)
The Devil in the White City Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America- set in turn of the century America

Year of Wonders- set in 1600s England during the plague
I would definitely have prefered turn of the century America for the simple fact that while there were a lot of thing that could kill you plague wasn't one of them. Plague would have been a nasty way to die.

This book was about Kit and her new friends she has made since her divorce. It tells the story of how their lives change and their friendship endures.

Friendship means to me that now matter what changes in your life, whether it be your spouse, your job or where you live, your friends remain your friends. You are willing help when they need you and you accept their help when you need them.

Merry Christmas to all my GR friends!

A.Red Light, Green Light, Eat Right The Food Solution That Lets Kids Be Kids ****
A great little book with easy to make recipes that are healthy that kids will eat. Also some good information for if your child is overweight or if you want to prevent obesity in your child.
AND
B. Made the Holiday Ham for Christmas dinner. It was really yummy and I got a lot of complements from my family! We ate every bite...even my two kids.
