Last task; can't wait until tomorrow for Spring to start.

15.8. SILVER SCREEN CELEBRATIONS
A. The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale Of Christmas Terror, Version 2.0 by Christopher Moore
B. I watched Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer and Cricket on the Hearth in their entirety, plus saw most of The Santa Clause (part 3, I think?), Santa Baby, Shrek The Halls... it's not difficult to watch Christmas shows around Christmas time :)
20.3 GROUP READS
A. Alice's Adventures In Wonderland And Through The Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll
25.2. GINA'S TASK - FEBRUARY IS INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP MONTH
Read: Hot Chocolate Friendship by Nancy Levene
In the words of Christopher Moore from The Stupidest Angel: "If you think anyone is sane you just don't know enough about them. The key... is to find someone whose insanity dovetails with your own." My dearest friends embrace my crazy, as I do theirs, and we have a blast because of it. The most important thing about friendship, to me, is that ability to just be yourself and be accepted for it anyway. :)
25.8. MICHELLE US' TASK - JANUARY 30TH IS INANE ANSWERING MACHINE DAY
Read:

So now you have 7 hours to recover ;)"
Thanks, Ashley! You can bet I'll be triple-checking everything from now on, especially in the last week of the challenge!!

5.6 The Club of Queer Trades by G.K. Chesteron - the main character is a judge/mystic; it's also full of strange jobs I could never think of.
5.8 A Caribbean Mystery by Agatha Christie
15.1 Satirical novel: In the Sweet Dry and Dry by Christopher Morley and Bart Haley
Black comedy film: Manhattan Murder Mystery, directed by Woody Allen
15.2 The Silver Chair and The Horse and His Boy (Chronicles of Narnia, #4 and #5) by C.S. Lewis
15.8 Both take place at Christmas:
A Holiday for Murder by Agatha Christie
White Christmas, directed by Michael Curtiz
15.9 On TBR the longest: Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw - pretty much wanted to read this since seeing My Fair Lady many years ago

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
25.5 A House to Let by Charles Dickens, Wilkie Collins, Elizabeth Gaskell, and Adelaide Anne Procter
25.6 Takes place on the island country known as the UK: The Red House Mystery by A.A. Milne
25.8 One word title: Shandygaff by Christopher Morley
Seven plus word title: Imbibe!: From Absinthe Cocktail to Yorkshire Punch, a Salute in Stories and Drinks to "Professor" Jerry Thomas, Pioneer of the American Bar by David Wondrich
25.9 Includes a map: The Mystery of the Yellow Room by Gaston Leroux
Includes a glossary of terms: Un Lun Dun by China Mieville
30.3 889 pages total:
Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot (64 pp.)
Dead Man's Mirror by Agatha Christie (191 pp.)
The Black Monk and Peasants by Anton Chekov (90 pp.)
The Language of Sand by Ellen Block - GoodReads author (288 pp.)
Wicked Plants: The Weed That Killed Lincoln's Mother and Other Botanical Atrocities by Amy Stewart - GoodReads author (256 pp.)
30.5 A Ghost in the Machine by Caroline Graham - also fits 5.8 (cozy mystery) and 10.7 (related to my favorite TV show, Midsomer Murders)
- this one is over 500 pages at 512 pp.
30.10 Happy color: Sir Gawain and the Green Knight by Anonymous
Number: Creepy Susie and 13 Other Tragic Tales for Troubled Children by Angus Oblong
35.4 How to Live on 24 Hours a Day by Arnold Bennett
Only two of these were GR authors - Ellen Block and Amy Stewart, both read for 30.3. That's probably because I read a lot of older novels. I also only read one large book for 30.5, A Ghost in the Machine by Caroline Graham was 512 pages. My totals I believe are 340 points and 16 completed tasks. I seem to read much slower than others in this group!

25.7 - The Pearl by John Steinbeck AND Animal Farm by George Orwell
I was kind of meh on The Pearl - it was good but I didn't really like the ending. Animal Farm was great.
25.10 - Moregasm: Babeland's Guide to Mind-Blowing Sex by Rachel Venning and Claire Cavanah AND Maus I by Art Spiegelman

Maus was a re-read and I liked it just as much now as I did the first time I read it.
I'm so excited to be finishing my first challenge! There were a few tasks I was only able to complete partially, but I think I did well for my first go. I can't wait to get started on the next one.
Tasks Completed: 11
Books Read: 16
Pages Read: 4403
Points Earned: 185

Also, congrats to everyone who finished the challenge! I wish I had enough time to read all those books.

Death by Darjeeling by Laura Childs
TOTAL = 100

10.6 I read "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini and liked it even more than "The Kite Runner."
That brings my final total to 235.

5.1 An Offer From a Gentleman - Julia Quinn
This book is pretty much a retelling of the Cinderella story.. there is even a glass shoe on the cover!

5.2Devil's Bride - Stephanie Laurens
5.5 Lord of Scoundrels - Loretta Chase (librarian recommend)
5.6 The Interior - Lisa See
She is a undercover investigator in China. Something I would never, ever want to do... ever.
5.9 It's In His Kiss - Julia Quinn
5.10 When He Was Wicked - Julia Quinn
10.4 The Duke And I - Julia Quinn
5 star on Sara's list
10.6 Secret Desires of a Gentleman - Laura Lee Guhrke
20.1 Romancing Mister Bridgerton - Julia Quinn
This has been translated into multiple languages, including German and Chinese
25.4 And Then He Kissed Her - Laura Lee Guhrke (set in Victorian/Turn of the century England)
25.4 The Viscount Who Loved Me - Julia Quinn (set during the Regency)
I would chose to live in the turn of the century because of the women's right things... the series was about "Girl bachelors" which was a nice change for a romance novel. I'd rather be independent (however little they had).
25.5How to Marry a Marquis - Julia Quinn

25.10 With Seduction in Mind - Laura Lee Guhrke
The design of this just wows me because the word seduction leads my brain toward thoughts of ... well seduction. And to have the girl who looks like she is pleasuring herself just made me want to read to see how this book went!
25.10 Hana-Kimi, Volume 1 - Hisaya Nakajo
30.3 To Taste Temptation - Elizabeth Hoyt (362)
30.3 It's in His Kiss: The Epilogue II - Julia Quinn (35*)
30.3 When He Was Wicked: The Epilogue II - Julia Quinn (35*)
30.3 Romancing Mister Bridgerton: The Epilogue II - Julia Quinn (35*)
30.3 To Catch an Heiress - Julia Quinn (384)
30.3 The Viscount Who Loved Me: The Epilogue II - Julia Quinn (35*)
Total ~886?
*These were all eBooks which I checked out from the library. Apparently you can't go back and look up page numbers, so I estimated they were about 35 pages each.
30.6 The Wicked Ways of a Duke - Laura Lee Guhrke
I've always wanted to go to England, if only for the fact that I read so many historical romance novels. It would be awesome for me to be able to experience some of these places I've read so much about.
30.7 All Things Beautiful - Cathy Maxwell (fits the red/white/blue color cover challenge

Totals:
Books: 22
Challenges: 15
Points: 235

30.9 - The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin and The Great Gilly Hopkins by Katherine Paterson (from 1979 - these were two very different and enjoyable books, but I agree that the Westing Game should win out over The Great Gilly Hopkins, because it was just so darn clever!)
35.2 - Sleigh Ride: A Wild Ride Up the Cupboards by Ann Bauer and A Body in the Sleigh by Katherine Hall Page
Total from February: 140
January: 125
December: 90
Grand Total: 355
Not bad for my first one :)

Lime Tree Can't Bear Orange by Amanda Smyth
Like everyone else living in the Northeast, I'm so sick of snow. Mother Nature and Old Man Winter must be having a fight or something. I would love to be somewhere warm, sunny and tropical. I just went to the library and searched for a book that took place in a tropical setting. This took place in Trinidad and Tobago. Very lush and sultry story, just what I needed to warm my soul. Reading this book I could very easily imagine myself soaking in the sun on a beach with my toes in the water. Spring can't get here soon enough for me! That's my final book for the Winter Challenge! I'm proud of how I did for my first challenge, now I have to get ready for the spring challenge.

My favorite games are card games, and over Christmas I spent hours playing cards with my family.
15.6: Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi(12/17)
I think the heart of Pinocchio is love and friendship and I think that is the greatest gift anyone can ask for. No matter how far Pinocchio strayed, he still yearned for the love and friendship of his family throughout this weird little book. My husband and I donate food almost every week to our church's food bank, which provides meals for people in need in our community.
15.8 I read Charles Kuralt's Christmas and watched The Flinstone's Christmas. completed 1/4

30.4 The Scarlet Plague by Jack London
30.5 Elsewhere by G. Zevin (***Goodreads Author) and The Amateur Emigrant by R.L. Stevenson
30.6 Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks (2/28)
This books takes place for the most part in Rodanthe, off the coast of North Carolina. Right now, after two months of snow, I'd love to go to any beach and even though the book takes place during a hurricane, I still loved the descriptions of the ocean!
30.7: Toby Tyler, or Ten Weeks with a Circus by James Otis 12/7 Counts for 35.3 and 10.1.
30.8 A. First Across the Continent. The Story of The Exploring Expedition of Lewis and Clark in 1804-5-6 by Noah Brooks and Sacajawea by Anna Lee Waldo (1424 pages)

FINAL STATS
Tasks Completed: 31/58
Books Read: 43/81
Pages Read: 12,687
Points Earned: 610/1100

PS - Here's a breakdown of the whole shebang: http://www.goodreads.com/story/show/3...

10.4 (its rated five stars by Diane)
25.6 (takes place on an island)
25.7B (featured on Lost)
30.1 (was published and made into a movie in the last decade)
Therefore, I can use it for 30.7, multitasking.
I have to say, this multitasking is one of my favorite challenges!!

10.5
What the Dog Saw and Other Adventures - Parts of it were a little weak for me but overall another home run for Galdwell.
25.5
Soccernomics - Take the data into the basement and torture it until it confesses
25.10
A -

B - The Umbrella Academy, Vol. 2: Dallas - A superhero family, time travel, sadistic assassins in Banana Splits masks, and a very unexpected person behind the "trigger" at the end.
30.4
The Strain - Vampires, i guess, but a pretty loose interpretation. Pretty scary in parts though, i certainly won't forget Mr. Leech's visits to grandma's house.
Points: 95
Books: 6
Tasks: 5

finished task 15.6 by reading On The Road and for christmas i donated to www.heifer.org in my family member's names. they're an incredible organization that helps impoverished people be able to become self-sufficient and then pay it forward. i read On The Road because my bestest gift ever was the car my parents helped me buy when i was 18. (they paid most of, left me a year's worth of car payments.) the gift taught me responsibility (payments, upkeep, safe driving) and allowed me to become more independent. i drove that car for 16 1/2 years and i'd still be driving it if someone hadn't front-ended me and totaled her! :(

Total Points: 970/1100
Books Read: 63/81
Tasks Completed: 43/58
Tasks in Progress: 0
i got a heck of a lot further in this challenge than i expected to. 3 weeks off for christmas helped! i'm doing a limited amount of tasks for spring, but i'm planning on busting my butt on the summer challenge!
thanks, cynthia! you rule! :)

Finished 30.8 Kari's Task with:
Undaunted Courage and Little House on the Prairie
I grew up learning about Lewis and Clark every year in Montana History and was really surprised how much I did not know. Great task - Thanks. My final point total is 415. Looking forward to the Spring Challenge!

30.2 - Scifi past and present
Past - Virtual Light by William Gibson
Present - Shadow of the Hegemon by Orson Scott Card

So as a recap of everything I read:

25.5 - James Potter and the Curse of the Gate Keeper
25.7 - This Side of Paradise + Carrie

30.7 - The Lost Symbol
30.9 - The Slave Dancer + The Dark Is Rising
30.10 - The 13 Clocks + The Red Pony
35.3 - Three Weeks with My Brother
50.1 - The Golden Compass + The Physics of Skiing
Totals:
Points:605
Tasks:27
Books:39
Pages:12292

5.2 - Number the Stars
15.2 - Possessing the Secret of Joy by Alice Walker and The Wild Things (imaginary land)
20.2 - Claudette Colvin: Twice Toward Justice - a terrific story of the teenage girl who refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus almost a year before Rosa Parks.
25.2 - Uglies - to me, friendship is about standing by a person and being there for them even when it isn't easy, and it's about wrestling with the issues when you disagree with a friend, rather than either giving in or standing by your guns thoughtlessly. In the book, I thought there were examples of great friendship and also some failures of friendship - which of course is also part of being a friend!
So that should be 65 more points, bringing my final total to 440! Whoo hoo - can't wait for the spring challenge! (Ok, so I only have to wait 45 minutes...still!)

5.5 The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
5.8 The Cat Who Blew The Whistle by Lilian Jackson Braun
10.10 Broken Song by Kathryn Lasky
25.5 Lottery by Patricia Wood
Total points: 45

15.2 - Alice I Have Been by Melanie Benjamin (Goodreads author!) - Character named Alice
AND Magic Study by Maria V. Snyder (another Goodreads author!) - set in a fictional land
25.4 - The Road to Sardis by Stephanie Plowman - set in 400 BC
The Children's Book by A.S. Byatt - set during the Victoria age *675 pages*
Of these two historical periods, I would definitely prefer to live in the Victorian age, when women were beginning to get at least some limited rights. In 400BC, women were barely even thought of except as property - not a fun time to live.
25.10 - The Doomsday Key by James Rollins (Goodreads author!) I LOVE this cover for this book:

AND Fables: Legends in Exile by Bill Willingham - graphic novel
30.3 - Heat Wave by Richard Castle (198 pages)
AND Flow: The Cultural Story of Menstruation by Elissa Stein and Susan Kim (288 pages) (Goodreads authors!)
AND Boys Over Flowers, Volume 35 by Yoko Kamio (192 pages)
AND Boys Over Flowers, Volume 36 by Yoko Kamio (200 pages)
