Having read only four of Auster's novels, I can't count myself qualified to rank his novels in any way, but of those few that I HAVE read (Man in the Dark, The Brooklyn Follies, Invisible, and Travels in the Scriptorium), this is probably my favorite. Immediately after finishing Man in the Dark, I thought it might have dethroned Invisible, but as the days have distanced us, I am feeling less enthusiastic about MID, and ever-more enthusiastic about Invisible.

if you like Auster, his wife's work is very similar - Siri Hustvedt

I read a review that saw invisible as the last part of a trilogy because the previous books were about old men (Man in the dark, Travels in the scriptorium)
I am not convinced. Invisible seems to be more about 1967. What do you think?
