Seena Seena (seenastarkbookwhoreasaurus) | 109 comments Ok I am trying to find a new series too read, have just done BDB and i feel as thought NOTHING WILL EVER COMPARE TO THEM!!!

Anyway......

I have come across the name Bones (a male character) he seems to come up ALOT whats the series he is in and is worth reading????

message 2: by Sally (new)

Sally (larwos) | 258 comments I've seen all that about Bones and Cat too and wondered if it was as good as everyone said. Well, it's just as good. All characters grabbed me immediately I started the first book, Halfway to the Grave, by Jeaniene Frost, and it just got better. I cant wait to read the next and the next. If you've read the Outlander series, then to me Bones is the Vampire equivalent to Jamie Fraser and that's a true compliment.

message 3: by Laura Lulu (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) Sally, if someone would have put it that way, I would have read the Night Huntress series sooner--Jamie is my all time favorite. So yes, a true compliment indeed. :)

But I am finally reading them this month for the challenge--can't wait.

Brandy *Ahviel* (ahviel) | 257 comments Bones and Cat are the best together.... Worth the read

message 5: by FlibBityFLooB (new)

FlibBityFLooB In my opinion, NIGHT HUNTRESS is better than BDB. :)
It's my favorite PNR/UF series.

♥Lynn ♥ | 519 comments I have to say that I LOVED the Jeaniene Frost series!! Each book is better than the first and I look forward to what is going to happen next. I have set myself up because I have thought the same thing about the BDB. I mean hello those hot males just make reading worth it. However, reading the relationship between Bones and Cat is just as good. The Huntress and BDB are two differnt concepts which makes them the two best series out there!!!!

I agree Flib--Night Huntress is MUCH better than BDB. But then again, I'm not a fan of BDB. Not sure why, but I'm not. I never DID get through book 1--and only managed to slog through book 2 because I was determined to give it a chance.

Cat and Bones are a MUCH better read all around than BDB, any day of the week.

message 8: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (funlovinlady) | 138 comments Bones is a great character! You will love the series, I do.

message 9: by Cici (new)

Cici | 12 comments It's very hard for me to compare NH with BDB. I love both of them, but in completley separate ways.

It might also have to do with the fact I was able to read most of the NH series back to back, while I caught BDB early on and had to wait so long to see what happend next.

Oh well, they both were worth the time and money to read :) For me anyways!!

message 10: by Sandy (new)

Sandy | 449 comments I prefered the Night Huntress series to BDB. Couldn't really get into BDB but really enjoyed Cat and Bones.

RogueHireling (rogue_hireling) | 156 comments If you ever watched Buffy, the characters will seem very familiar. =)

I have yet to meet someone who has read this series and doesn't instantly fall for Bones. Has anyone ever met a Bones hater?

Um, I don't think anyone has ever resisted Bones. At least, not in any of the chats that I'm following, anyway.

Kristin - *Nocturnal Bites* (nocturnalbites) | 8 comments The Night Huntress series is the best Paranormal romance/vampire books out there. Be warned, once you start reading, you won't put it down until it's finished. Lets just say that Bones is smokin'hot! He brings on all the charm and you can't help but fall head over heals for the bad a**, mischievous, yet oh so sexy vamp hottie that he is!!

"Juan gave Bones the most admiring look he’d bestowed on him yet. “You talked her into going without panties all these years? Madre de Dios, now that’s impressive. I could learn a great deal from you, amigo.”

Rebecca (Bec) | 248 comments Okay..

I have to say something coz I have read the majority of these books (all except the last)and while I'm not a hater of Bones.. Im not a lover either. I don't know why but he doesn't do it for me like some of the other alpha's In differnt series.

sorry guys!

message 17: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I love Bones and all the books, but the writing is just a bit off for me. I love the characters and the stories, but her writing style throws me off sometimes. I can't explain it. I do highly recommend the books though and until Rebecca spoke up, I have not seen a thread where someone wasn't wishing Bones was real.

message 18: by Rebecca (Bec) (new)

Rebecca (Bec) | 248 comments I know....I'm sorry... I have been biting my tounge for ages, and just not commenting at all.. I couldn't hold it in any longer :(

That's ok Rebecca. I'll take your share of Bones. :oP

Besides, not everyone has the same taste in men, thank heavens. Or we'd all be fighting over the same man. lol

message 20: by Rebecca (Bec) (new)

Rebecca (Bec) | 248 comments lol He is very popular though! I constantly read about all his love. Not like he isn't getting enough!

message 22: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Rebecca, you were brave to say anything...I bet you there are a ton of others who won't speak up but share your opinion. I myself have done that with other books/characters. I don't say anything negative in a thread with all the lovers!

message 23: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Hyde (ittybittybee) | 28 comments I have read all the books in the Grave Huntress Serie and won a book when Jeanine Frost have a giveaway (had to brag) Omg, can't brag enough about the series. The development in the characters as well as the plots will keep you like oh, wow, seriously, then your like no!!!!,oh, uh huh, then before you know it you have read the whole book. So i encourage people to read the series. You will not be disappointed.

message 24: by Tina (new)

Tina | 130 comments I really like the Night Huntress series. The characters are awesome. I love Bones and Cat. The story lines are good, but not great. It's really all about the characters that bring these books to life.

message 25: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (vampoholic) | 122 comments READ READ READIT!!!!!! It is beyond good.. Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost One Foot in the Grave A Night Huntress Novel by Jeaniene Frost At Grave's End (Night Huntress, #3) by Jeaniene Frost Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, #4) by Jeaniene Frost In that order. I'm reading the Darkyn Series now, which is another must read. Other good ones are Black Dagger Brotherhood, The Breed Series, The Dark Series....I could go on and on. Check out my book on my profile, I have a ton good series' on there.

lol Melissa,

I probably wouldn't have said anything if the question wasn't asked... But everyone has their tastes :P

message 27: by Tina (new)

Tina | 130 comments I didn't really luv Bones until At Grave's End. I agree that the writing is off. Her story lines aren't the best. But, her characters are awesome enough for me to by pass the writing. I do think her story telling is getting better with each book. Destined For An Early Grave was so so good!

message 28: by Rebecca (Bec) (new)

Rebecca (Bec) | 248 comments I haven't read that one yet Tina, though I have it listed to read this month in a reading challenge. I thought the first book was awesome, but since the others have not braught me back to the same conclusion, I have not gone back to them as quickly. Thats the thing, knowing that I really liked her first book I am hoping that she will bring me back!I think if she doesn't do it for me in Destined for an early grave I might just give up.. :(

message 29: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (vampoholic) | 122 comments I loved the books and the character's. What through u off from it?

message 30: by Rebecca (Bec) (new)

Rebecca (Bec) | 248 comments I think the first book was the big build up of romance between cat and bones that kept me going, and the second was the rekindle of their romance so that worked for me also but was still so-so. Not so much of it in At graves end, which I think in turn threw me off. I think this series is UF moreso then PNR and I tend to sway towards the PNR genre alot. But in saying that I have read other UF like Patricia Briggs Mercy series and absolutly loved them.

Comparing them to BDB I think it just doesn't compare. BDB was PNR and I absolutley adore the series and Loved the alphas in that. Bones got a bit annoying with 'mate' after every sentence, it was almost like she was trying too hard to make him of British/Australian decent. I guess in my head I was imagining Bones to be something like the Fagin or the artful dodger from oliver twist.

SO I guess if you are an UF fan and love a brittish/Aussie accent then these books might work for you.

message 31: by Rebecca (Bec) (new)

Rebecca (Bec) | 248 comments Or if you liked Spike from Buffy... I was an Angel fan myself! lol

message 32: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (vampoholic) | 122 comments lol. I kinda did have a thing 4 spike. And nothing really compares 2 bdb. Well the dark series could give them a run though. But i will 4ever b n love with zhadist and rhevenge.

message 33: by FlibBityFLooB (last edited Dec 03, 2009 06:19PM) (new)

FlibBityFLooB I actually think one of the reasons I really like the Night Huntress series is the heroine, Cat. She is a very strong female, and I appreciate that. She can fight Bones and keep up with him ;)

Also, I love the secondary characters like Vlad. I think the Spin-off series coming in February will be interesting.

message 34: by Rebecca (Bec) (new)

Rebecca (Bec) | 248 comments I actually like Cat too.. she is pretty kick arse! and I love kick arse females that can put a man in their place!

lol Tiffany I am feeling your love for the BDB. :P

message 36: by RogueHireling (new)

RogueHireling (rogue_hireling) | 156 comments I only read the first book so far and since I think of the whole affair as spike and buffy, I have a serious aversion to Bones. Mainly due to the fact that I NEVER liked Spike. Ew!
I am a devotee of Angel.

message 37: by Sally (new)

Sally (larwos) | 258 comments Dont like Spike? I've always found him attractive even when he was evil. James Marston also plays an evil person in Torchwood and I even like him there.
You speak of another series. Do you mean there's been a tv series about these books, or are you referring to Bones with 'Angel' in it? I adore the tv series Bones.

I think The Night Huntress series is better that BDB too--don't get me wrong, I loved BDB. I think I am more partial to the Urban Fantasy Romance as a whole as opposed to the Paranormal Romance. Both you tend to get your HEA, but with UFR, the story tends to develop and evolve more than in PNR,

message 40: by Stacy (new)

Stacy | 2 comments I just started this series and I'm completely absorbed in it. Didn't like Bones when I first "met" him but he grew on me *g* I'm just starting the 2nd book now. There are things about the series I like better than BDB.

Seena Seena (seenastarkbookwhoreasaurus) | 109 comments OMG!!! Bones is my new LOVE!!! I loved him from get go!!!! And i havnt even finished the 1st book LoL!!!! This book so far, FUNNY, SEXY, HOT, ............ I wish i could read and read and read and not have to sleep!!! LoL

message 42: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 112 comments I loved Bones up until Destined for an Early Grave. I was hoping something would happen between Cat and Vlad when Bones showed up. Really didn't want Cat and Bones to reunite, they no longer seemed to be as in love with each other after the bust-up.

I was a fan of both Angel and Spike. Angel may have been hot but Spike was funnier, he always made me smile. I was shocked to learn James Marsters wasn't English, his accent was so good!

message 43: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 112 comments ***Spoilerish***

Sammy, I think they still love each other but Cat was really hurt when Bones broke her heart. I guess I didn't think it was very realistic that they would just get back together so easily. I thought Cat would need a lot of reassurance and apologies for what he said and did, he was as much to blame for what happened as her. He should have voiced his concerns and his plans to her before acting. Maybe I just didn't feel they were as steady as a couple after all of that.

Comparing Cat and Bones to BDB? EEWWWEEEEEE. Sorry, I'm not a fan of BDB. I could not get past page 50 of book 1 of the BDB books. And it took me THREE DAYS to read book 2--mainly because I'd read a bit, put it down and read something else, then go back to Lover Eternal, put it down etc. I still don't understand why so many people are so pumped on BDB, but hey, you can have those guys and I'll take Bones, Spade, Vlad and the others from NH. :o)

Ann, I recommended BDB to one of my girlfriends and she called me and said, "What do you have me reading?" I didn't understand--then she explained that she felt as though she were reading a comic book mainly because of their names and the author's description of the characters. I urged her to give it a shot, but understood what she meant. She struggled thru the first 1/3 of Dark Lover and then she really go into it and ended up loving the series.

message 46: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (funlovinlady) | 138 comments I really love BONES. And I really like that Cat and Bones stay together. So many of the characters in other books sleep with so many other characters, that when they say "I love you" they mean; until the next one...

Hehehee, thats completely confusing, you are so right. So in Buffy the TV show I was always an Angel Fan. Never liked Spike. Spike who reminds me sooooo much of Bones (the vampire character from the book). They even use the same phrazes and have such similar personalities.

I actually liked Spike (TV show) far better when he joined the Angel (TV show) cast. Much more fun having the two vampires interact.

Sorry dont mean to derail the topic. =)

Thank god I'm not the only one [huge sigh:].

I don't know what it is about Bone's character that makes me want to sit under the air/con with an iced drink while I read but I like it!!!

OK... maybe the following gives me a few clues...
* The fact that Bones and Cat have this amazing tension,
* The fact that Cat is not a push-over,
* The fact that Bones just doesn't give up,
* The fact that he is wickedly sinful and that British accent - yum.

Check out the the link below for a video of Destined For An Early Grave (book 4);

I'd love to see these go to movie.

If it were a movie, Oh my!!! LoL

I have the image of him in my head, but i cant find anything on the net!!!

I've read on a few posts that people are comparing him too Spike but i dont get that image.

I have something like Colin farell in his younger days with short hair. But with platinum blonde hair. Colin has this smirk that i sooooo can see Bones having.

Well off to read book 3
