Doh ok well the way we do the bookshelf is we have shelves for each monthly read. And the books chosen for those reads go on that shelf.

For example:

This is a list of our shelves for our monthly reads for 2009 AND 2010. So obviously some are empty because we do not have books yet for most of the 2010 months :)

That is the only way I have personally been messing with the shelves.

If you guys want I can add more folders for people to add books in.

Like a *want to read* shelf? So people can pull from that shelf possibly for suggestions on the monthly reads?

Any suggestions are welcome for utilizing our shelves more.

I like that idea Trish. Sometimes suggestions don't get picked and people might forget. So having a want to read shelf can reserve a suggestion. Sort of like a reminder.

We can also have buddy reads shelves too :D

I figured a buddy read shelf per month would be best since if we had a lot in the year the folder would be littered with books hehe

Yeah! b/c they aren't regular monthly reads. That'll help keep track of them. Weren't you saying something about having a series shelf? Or was that a series folders. I think It'd be neat [though a lot of work:] to have a the series name and then add the books. I think that'll be an easy way to track series, no?

No the series folder is where all of the series will be posted. This will be a HUGE undertaking and will take some time to get it all going like we want.
Jackie has been awesome already with this so I already know it will be handled great :D

They dont need to go on shelves really, I think of the shelves as *want to read or read/reading*

So to specifically answer your question, if a book is on the group reads or buddy reads shelves they have been read for the month they are listed. We try and put the books on these shelves ahead of time so people know what we will be reading.

Oh ok. You'll have to post one as an example and let me know. I am more a visual learner. I get what you mean about not adding the series to shelves ;)

I see that you've made the shelves. So as people want to 'advertise' for buddy reads they can add it to the shelves like we do for monthly reads and the want to read shelf as well.

Well if you are reading it then you no longer *want to* right? lol

Either way it doesn't matter really. I can rename the Want To to something else to lessen confusion lol

As we use them it'll be easier to understand for me, no worries.

Well there are 3 exclusive shelves:

To-Read
Read
Currently-Reading

One of those must be chosen for a book.

Then after that we specify which other shelf the book pertains to.

In the case of the listed shelves I posted above, it would fall into one of 3 categories:

Group Reads
Buddy Reads
Want to Read (name of shelf may change later)

I ALWAYS change the "To-Read" books on our group reads to *Currently-Reading" and then when the month is over to "Read".

So the shelves should be rather accurate in what the group has read, I think. I have it open where people can add books but I don't think many are even using it.


As far as *how* to use our shelves, I would like to keep them to our group reads/buddy reads only with the exception of the want to read shelf. Which I am not even sure will get much attention.
Reason being is that if we start adding all sorts of other books the group has not read (or does not plan to read) then new members might be confused if they use the bookshelf to determine what the group does.

That make sense?

There *may* be some stragglers that missed my watching eye but that should be the case yes Laura :)

I will make it a note to go over the shelves soon to make sure its organized :)
