Lois Browne (loislmb) | 24 comments I posted to my two blogs today -- links to a free short story Murder in the Clubhouse: A Diamond Girls Mystery. http://www.loisbrowne.com and http://intheirownleague.wordpress.com

The main characters are two professional girl ballplayers in 1943 -- Jo Diamond and her cousin Harry. Someone was killed in their clubhouse. They recognize a clue the police have found at the scene, but if they tell what they know, it could be the end of the team and their professional baseball careers.

Jerry Ash | 15 comments Hellraiser—Mother Jones: An Historical Novel

Goodreads Giveaway (10 copies) open until September 20. Book goes on sale September 22.

Book bloggers are giving this book five-star reviews.

Synopsis:

"If history repeats itself, and the unexpected always happens, how incapable must man be of learning from experience." — George Bernard Shaw, Irish playwright and co-founder of the London School of Economics.

Hellraiser —Mother Jones: An Historical Novel brings Irish American Mother Jones back to renew the lessons of her history, to understand and compare the economic injustices of her time with the economic inequalities of contemporary life and to enable Mother Jones to once again call her people to action.

In history, Mary Harris Jones faces threats and jail terms, bullets and bombs to defend the American worker, the underclass — men, women and children — against the greed of robber barons like Ford, Rockefeller, Carnegie, Morgan and Vanderbilt.

In the end, the spirit of Mother Jones returns to find an America where economic servitude has shifted from the coal mines and sweatshops of her day to the fast food chains, big box retailers and even the hight tech industries of ours. Where capitalism has robbed the people of the promises of justice, equality, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in what was supposed to be a democratic society. Just as she warned 100 years ago.

We've started a new group affiliated with the comedy website The University of the Bleeding Obvious and you're all invited. At the moment we're asking people who they think would win in a big fight between Captain Kirk, Sherlock Holmes, Queen Elizabeth I and seven others. Because it's important to know this stuff, right?

We also want your funny pictures, stories and articles. You're also welcome to plug your books, blogs, websites and so on. And we plan to feature exclusive material and giveaways.

Jennifer Wixson (chickenjen) | 3 comments Hello! I write chick lit, rural romances set in the mythical town of Sovereign, Maine. Book 1 Hens and Chickens tells the story of two women downsized by corporate America who move to Maine to raise chickens and sell organic eggs, and discover more than they bargained for, including love. Book 2 Peas, Beans & Corn is about a Maine Army Guardsman who returns to Sovereign with the secret dream of restarting the town's old sweet corn canning factory. You can find more about the other 2 books in the series (and a cookbook) on my website http://www.thesovereignseries.com/ where I'm currently running a special: 2 books for $25 and FREE shipping (I even undercut Amazon!) So, read the Amazon and Goodreads reviews, then go to my website for fast, free service and get AUTOGRAPHED books. Thanks! Jen
