http://www.tcfbusgroup.com is a link to more about "PATH to FREEDOM: My Story of Perseverance," an award-winning memoir. It shares a fly-or-die journey.

Set in the Amazon jungle and West Point, aficionados of true stories get a peek at the cultural trauma of emigration, the unique experience that is West Point, the personal side of Cold-War-era geopolitics, and the mayhem of Third World politics. The view will be nostalgic for some, shocking for many, and enlightening for others.

Paul West (firstcauseproject) | 31 comments Hi all,

The world is in chaos from a two-day battery of explosions in many of its major cities.

A week after the explosions, journalist Adam Grey wakes up in the hospital. He pieces together the events leading to his injury, involving a woman named Angela.

Senator Cyrus Reardon has been appointed the new President of the United States' decimated government. A politician who isn't generally fond of his peers, he's faced with leading a discordant provisional Cabinet, addressing the nation's growing panic, and trying to separate fact from fiction.

Confronted with the truth behind the attacks, they--along with the world at large--are forced to reconsider conventional assumptions about human nature and possibility.

Check out the ebook for First Cause: A Novel About Human Possibility at the links below!

Stephen Pearl (stephenp11) | 272 comments Dark Dragon Publishing is throwing a Face Book book launch event for my new novel, Nukekubi on March 1, 2012. Drop in to the page and say hi if you want a good paranormal detective novel.

From ancient times nukekubi have haunted the land of Japan. Living as men by day, these beasts slip their heads free of their flesh at night and go in search of human prey. These hapless souls are driven into a terrified madness that results in their death.
Ray McAndrues, a modern-day wizard, must neutralize a nukekubi that is feasting on the people of Toronto. He is aided by Cathy, a sorceress of numerous charms, and Toshiro and Kunio, two, Japanese, martial artists who have made hunting nukekubi their lives' work.
As the quest plays out, questions arise. Who is hunting who? How can you slay the beast that stalks the night without slaying the man who walks the day? What is the strange, millennia-old connection that binds Ray to the beast, and will it help or hinder the quest?
Remember, you have nothing to fear but Nukekubi, fear itself.

Every second week I read a brand new popular non-fiction books at the intersection of science and the humanities and write an article wherein I summarize the main argument of the book and offer up some of the juicier details and anecdotes to be found therein (at newbooksinbrief.wordpress.com). Some of the books I've covered recently include 'The Social Conquest of Earth' by E.O. Wilson; 'The Power of Habit' by Charles Duhigg; and 'Abundance: The Future Is Better Than You Think' by Peter Diamandis. Feel free to drop by the site to check out my work (again, newbooksinbrief.wordpress.com)

Aaron Thibeault (thebookreporter) | 81 comments Just finished reading 'The Social Conquest of Earth' by legendary biologist E.O. Wilson. The book charts the biological and cultural evolution of our species from the time we branched off from the chimps to the dawn of civilization. It was really excellent. I've published a full and comprehensive summary of the book at newbooksinbrief.wordpress.com if you are interested in this topic.

Cheers,
Aaron
