Youndyc | 1255 comments While many people don't, I celebrate Christmas this time of year. I'm not trying to offend anyone whose holidays are different than mine, I was just wondering who's going where this holiday season?

I'm traveling next week to visit my mom and all my mom's side in Louisiana! It's a long boring drive. But it's a good place to visit, and I miss my family. I didn't even bother to decorate my house this year - it's silly to do it, since I'm not usually home for the celebration.

But I'll be in my home for New Year's - family for Christmas, friends for New Year's Eve!

Mary (madamefifi) Both my famille and my husband's are in Virginia--hubby's about an hour to the south of us and mine about an hour to the north. For the first time in years I'm taking Xmas off so we'll go to Richmond on Xmas eve and to Southill on Xmas day.

Though on the whole I would rather be lying on a beach somewhere in the Caribbean, skipping the entire Xmas thing.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I am traveling from my couch to my kitchen. Oh, I hate traveling for holidays...so we're not. I guess there's both short/long term traveling...e.g. do you drive an hour or two away for one day or a longer trip...luckily I don't think there's any one place big enough to contain all the cousins, etc. so we just blow everything off.

My wife, however, is visiting her mom for a couple days after Christmas. This means that I can travel on my own for a few days after the New Years. Kevin and Tad, I might be in your neighborhoods...

We will be home for Christmas Eve/Christmas and then going about an hour west for the week end to my inlaws to celebrate Christmas with my wife's family where we will go out to eat with my mom and sister also.

We're going to Denver this weekend to be with Sweeter's parents, his sister, bro-in-law, and nephews. Tomorrow morning we pretend is Christmas, then we have two days of hanging around, eating, watching movies, and playing with the kids.

We'll come home Sunday night and for real Christmas go to my mom's house, which is less than a mile away.

I get less and less excited about Christmas every year. Maybe once we have kids I'll feel more festive.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I usually drive up to Mom's for Christmas Eve, and go to church with her, and then she comes back down to Olympia with me for Christmas Day, the opening of the presents, and all the cooking.
I will be hosting the Christmas dinner this year. There will be organized chaos in my kitchen all day!

Félix (habitseven) I'll be home for Christmas, and not just in my dreams.

Youndyc | 1255 comments Will it be snowing, though?

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I'm in Houston, Texas right now where the temps are in the 60s! :D

I'm so happy to be with family. I took eleventy billion pics of Mom's Christmas puppy, Daisy Piddles (she renamed her Daisy, but some of us still call her Piddles or Daisy Piddles).

And I plan to take LOTS more. I've also been calling her Piranha. She's been eating my feet and my hands. I keep teasing that she's just gonna leave me with nubs if she keeps that up. Robby doesn't like her nipping at his tail while he's taking care of business.

Looks like it will be. Yes.

I don't like it when people do that to me, either.

message 12: by Youndyc (new)

Youndyc | 1255 comments I can't decide what books to take for the trip! I have John LeCarre's A Most Wanted Man, plus Herbie Brennan's Faerie Lord to cover two wildly different genres. Beyond that, I'm debating between some truly light reading (think Christina Dodd or something simlar) and my first Haruki Murakami - After Dark

message 13: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Have a safe trip, Youndy. And don't read while you're driving!

message 14: by Youndyc (new)

Youndyc | 1255 comments Haha. Luckily, I don't plan on doing most of the driving!

message 15: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Oh good. You can read, then.

This holiday season, expect flights to be packed tightly. Industry watchers say travelers should be prepared to fight for carry-on baggage space and pay for food, pillows and other onboard amenities.

Joy to the world!

Phil | 11837 comments I'm traveling this year for Thanksgiving, taking the family to Kauai. We'll be hiking, kayaking, relaxing and golfing for the week, rain or shine. Truthfully, we'll probably mostly be relaxing, and it will mostly be raining. It's no problem though; even when it's raining it's 78 degrees.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Like!

*Wishes she was Phil's kid*

Phil | 11837 comments If you were, you'd be going to Hawaii, but you'd have to come back after a week to finish the 4th grade. :)

message 20: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) It might just be worth it.

message 21: by evie (new)

evie (ecie) | 4439 comments We haven't made plans yet. We have a couple of weeks free at Christmas, but other than a day or two on the south coast with family, we will probably stay here in Sydney. It's actually a good time to stay in town as it's quiet enough to get a car park and the traffic is lean.
Holiday destinations are way too crowded for me during the peak seasons .

No problem. I could probably finish the fourth grade in about a week. BRING IT, MOFOS.

As I joked to my sister, after my nephew missed a day of preschool because of Megastorm Sandy, "How will he ever catch up?"

message 24: by Riona (new)

Riona (rionafaith) | 488 comments I wish! I'll be working all through December (I have Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day off and that's about it), but this job is actually paying pretty well so I'm hoping I can save enough to go on a quick vacation in January. Some friends of mine just moved to California, so I'd love to go visit them.

message 25: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments It is quite possible that we may be going to the UK between Thanksgiving and Christmas. My wife is supposed to go for work, I may tag along.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments It seems we'll be headed to Columbia, MO for the holidays. Woo hoo!!!

message 27: by Pat (new)

Pat (patb37) We are heading down to the Atlanta area over Thanksgiving. This year we get to meet the new grand niece.

Well, go, Jim, but expect to freeze your...parts off. The weather will be dismal. Is she going to London? Have you been before?

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

We're going to the Bay Area at some point over Christmas week...it's all "willy nilly" as we're driving, so it doesn't really matter that much when we go or get back.

(Phil, I'd go back to 4th grade in a minute, as long as I get to remember all that I know now. :)

More in the north, about an hour east of Manchester in Harrogate.

You do know I live in Wisconsin right?

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, right.

Manchester, huh? Well, not really where I'd pick to go on holiday, but...

Oh, Harrogate is only about half an hour from York! York is good fun.

If you go to a pub and they have the giant Yorkshire Pudding full of chili, have one for me. It was so good I still dream about it 20 years later!

*drools a little*
