A short preview of the life of the author before he set out on this journey from 1970 to 1979 in which he traveled from Europe overland through Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. He eventually went on to Australia through South East Asia. Homesteaded in Australia and returned with a wife and two children in 1979. Many amazing adventures and sights that will never be seen again due to the changing of our world today.

I know Al personally - He's a really great guy with quite a few good books under his belt, most notably the Savage God: A Study of Suicide. If you're a rock climber you might also enjoy Feeding the Rat about his own personal experiences. Lately Al has been more into poker books, which I am not, but I do know it's quite popular these days. So if that is your fancy, he did write a pretty good book called the Biggest Game in Town.
