NancyInWI (nanckopf) | 47 comments I am trying to decide what book or books to take with me to Hawaii in 2 weeks. We have a LONG flight and a week there, with activities scheduled for 3 of the days. Otherwise, I plan to sit on the beach or at the pool and read.
I was thinking of taking something "light" and considering the double book I have Barbara Delinsky's "Coast Road" and "Three Wishes." Pretty fluffy stuff, but I really don't want anything "deep" for a vacation.
My other choise is "Read the Beatles"...various essays.

Any thoughts?

Coast Road/Three Wishes

NancyInWI (nanckopf) | 47 comments Thanks Alias. When I entered "Read the Beatles" it came up with a HUGE list of Beatles books. Guess I needed to enter the author name, but I didn't have it handy. THANKS!

I love Barbara Delinski books, and think they'd be great for your trip. I recently listened to one of her newest, I think it's called "My Sister's Keeper".......or something similar. It was free from my Library, as something I could download on my ipod. She's a terrific writer, in my opinion. Enjoy your trip!

Sarah (sarahreader) I enjoyed that Delinski book too, Donna. I think it is called something close, maybe As My Sister Sleeps. "My Sister's Keeper" is by Jodi Picoult. Although Picoult and Delinski have very similar themes and styles, I strongly prefer Delinski. In fact, I have given up on Picoult.

It's so great that libraries are providing free downloads of audiobooks now! I enjoy listening while I drive or walk, but they can be so darn expensive.

AMEN! Don't even get me started on this topic.

Debbie (debatl) | 105 comments 2 wonderful books. I see little similarity to Jody Picault. I like them both but for different reasons. I dont think you can go wrong with any of Delinsky's books. I think she has a new one coming out in January.

For something light you might try Mary Kay Andrews or Haywood Smith (Red Hat Ladies).

Yes, you are right, Sarah ---As My Sister Sleeps. I'm not a Picoult fan, though I know many people are. I started her Amish themed book, read the first 5 or 6 pages, figured it out, skimmed the end to make sure, then sent it back to the Library.

Deborah Smith is another author that I really like. Blue Willow is a favorite of mine. So many books, so little time! :o)

You're welcome. :)

When I have a problem getting the title on GR, I go to Amazon, get the ISBN # and enter that in GR.

madrano | 444 comments Oh, good idea, Alias. If i know the author i usually can find the title that route. Knowing another alternative should help. Thanks.

Carolyn (in SC) C234D | 123 comments I don't think I've ever read a Barbara Delinsky book, but after reading these posts I think I may try one. I think there is one around here someplace.

Mary | 25 comments Hi,

Barbara Delinsky has a new book coming out on 1.05.10 called Not My Daughter.

Mary | 25 comments I used to go to Avalon, New Jersey ever summer. I have seen people read A Time To Kill by John Grisham. I take books such as Hill Towns By Anne Rivers Siddons, I'll Take Manhattan by Judith Kratnz, The Summer I Dared by Barbara Delinsky and Body Surfing by Anita Shreve. I take an Oprah book with me on a beach vacation every now and then.

Reeves Honey | 142 comments To Mary who Went To Avalon,NJ
As a child in the 50's this is where we vacationed. There was a huge expanse of nothing in those days between Avalon and Stone Harbor. Now you can't tell where one ends and the other begins. In my crazy youth that lasted till I was 30 and met my future hubby,I went there with all my single gal pals! Later on with kids we vacationed in Sea Isle City sometimes. Its way cheaper there!
