I’m not sure of the exact book but at one point Roarke bought a house when they were traveling on a case that led them to Nebraska and put it in her name.

"How about if I said why don't you buy some underrated propery in -- I have to of somewhere weird. In Nebraska?"

I think she will discover the candy thief in Robb's final in death book.

In my opinion, it is Roarke. He often shows up in her office unexpectedly, although it could be someone not on my radar like the Commander. There are so many possible culprits it is difficult to guess.

Honestly, Eve has so many monitoring devices at her fingertips, that she could catch the thief if she wants to. She likes the game.

Yes I do, but she believes it is good police work. It amazes everyone who watches her when shes goes through what the killer does. I don't think she will ever say she is a sensitive or even that she has a unique skill.

Isn't it true in real life. Cops flip open their badge and intimidate.

I just put that (& other things like the AutoChef and cars that can go airborne) to the face this is a fictional book/series. Otherwise there would be a chance of someone like Roarke really being in the world.

A real world with Roarke. The women would be fighting for him daily.

ElectricOutcast (electicoutcast) | 639 comments I wouldn't really call this a question, but more of a theory about Eve, that unless Nora were to say otherwise, is making me having this idea: I think Eve Dallas has High-Functioning Autism.

message 816: by ElectricOutcast (new)

ElectricOutcast (electicoutcast) | 639 comments If there's one thing I noticed, I don't think Eve and Roarke ever took time out to play a game of Chess. I know both of them are busy to even think about it, but with the recent book and their discussion of their past lives, it makes me wonder who would win in a game of Chess?

SB*needs low angst books* Dstny5233 wrote: "how does Dallas get away with saying her badge gives her the right to intimidate anyone?"

You know this right here is what I find myself not liking often about her. Not to everyone but to the doormen/women and things like that. To people who are trying to do their job too.

Sharon, you're right about it being in real life too. Some more on the asshole side than others.

message 818: by Barbara "Cookie" (new)

Barbara "Cookie" Serfaty Williams (goodreadscomcookiew1801) | 1573 comments I thing Roarke would win in a game of chess. Eve is smart but Roarke is devious and when you play chess you have to be able to out wit your Opponent and he’s done it all his life.

I think on a good day, any one of the two can checkmate their opponent (each other I mean). In fact, Eve especially can be made to lost through what they call Scholar's mate, or mate in less than 4 moves. A suggestive title in itself :)

ElectricOutcast (electicoutcast) | 639 comments So I tried to look for a thread related to an Eve Dallas/Roarke movie but I couldn't find any so I'll post my question over here. I've been reading Dennis Lehane's Kenzie and Gennaro series this year and from the research I've done of that series, only one movie had been made from that series; Gone Baby Gone, the 4th book in the series, but no attempts at adapting the other books into either a TV series or movie.

Similar situation with me following Vampire Hunter D, only two movies were made, and that book series is about to get its own TV series.

Now in the case of J.D. Robb and the Eve Dallas/Roarke series, let's face it, if someone were to attempt at making every single book into a movie, it'd be just as frustrating as it would be when you see people make comic book movies. The movie series would be stale and would probably leave us fans very frustrated with burnout.

Which leads me to this opinion that I rather see this series go the Dennis Lehane route and only adapt at least one of the books into a movie, my pick would personally be Origin in Death on account that in the universe, that case was being adapted to its own movie and (view spoiler) and I think it would make sense for us to follow suit in real life. Not saying that the movie would be Oscar-worthy, not unless if someone were to REALLY put some work into making it good.

Just my own two cents on that subject, what do y'all think?

ElectricOutcast (electicoutcast) | 639 comments Forgive me for being stupid, I think Eve is a baseball fan, but is she a Mets fan or Yankees fan?

message 823: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
They’ve never mentioned baseball in my recollection. I know there are references to football. Wonder if it’s still around.

message 824: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3059 comments I thought Eve was a big baseball fan. I remember the discussion with Roarke about why they call the infield a baseball diamond and discussions with Peabody when she doesn't know a player. She mentioned Cal Ripkin in at least one In Death book.

I don't think she says Yankee or Mets, just baseball in general. I need to check later. I know Nora Roberts is a big Baltimore Orioles fan. She was raised in Glen Burnie, MD (Baltimore County), and lived in Severna Park in her early marriage years before moving to Boonsboro after her second marriage.

ElectricOutcast (electicoutcast) | 639 comments Sharon wrote: "I don't think she says Yankee or Mets, just baseball in general."

Thing is, New York is her adopted hometown, chances are she'll either go with the Yankees or Mets, no question. I guarantee you if Eve and Roarke were living in St. Louis, they'd not only feel at home over there, but they'd fall in love with both the Cardinals and the Blues fanbases. Same could be said for other sports cities.

I never said she wouldn't be a fan of a NY team. I said I don't know which one is her favorite. She discusses both teams at various times, mainly when she gives box seats to Dickie. Also, if you know New Yorkers, usually, they are soundly in the Yankees or Met camp.

Sheetal (kads99) | 4 comments Does anybody remember the book where Eve and Peabody get in a fight? Either Eve or Peabody get out of the car and walk back. I think it was the same book in which the killer is waiting near Peabody’s apartment at the end of the book.

I used to read the series 8 years ago. I suddenly remembered this scene and I want to reread the book. But I can’t remember the book! I read the first 45 books in the series so it’s definitely not one of the recent ones.

If anybody remembers please comment. I have been racking my brains for the past 4 hours

message 830: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 127 comments Possibly Holiday In Death? I don't recall a car scene, exactly, but Dallas and Peabody do have a fight (about Charles) and Peabody is the killer's target at the very end of the book.

message 841: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3059 comments Shannon wrote: "Do Eve drive you crazy sometime?"

This question comes up often. While I get that some people feel this way, to me her actions are a big part of her early life. It is often hard for her to step back from the horror of her past. Also her job is stressful and can put her on edge. I know that my job is stressful (nothing compared to a homicide cop) and I will strike out for no reason. It feels realistic to me. If Eve was perfect, the books wouldn't be as successful.

No, Eve isn’t ashamed of his money. She just has a strong need to be self sufficient and doesn’t want to live off of his. She wants to earn for herself.

Many female leaders in law enforcement prefer to be called “sir” rather than “ma’am” in this male dominated profession. I noticed the captain in the TV series Castle (4th season) preferred to be called sir also. I get it.

I understand she want to be self-sufficient, but she gets so mad at him when he uses the limousine coming to the precinct. Like she made Peabody walk to the precinct when Roarke offers to drop her off.

I get it too, but I feel that you should feel proud that I am a female that made it in the male dominated profession. Hear me Roar I am woman.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3059 comments Shannon wrote: "she gets so mad at him when he uses the limousine coming to the precinct. ."

She likes to keep Roarke's world and her world separate. When he comes to pick her up in a fancy car, she is going to get a ton load of ribbing.

message 846: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3059 comments As far as sir/mam, It is a badge of honor to be called sir by her team, in my opinion.
