Mary | 208 comments Congratulations for your little girl, Sara!!! BTW, I couldn't agree more with your previous post (message 96) about Eve and Roarke's committed relationship; the situation with Stephanie Plum, Ranger and Morelli had really pissed me of when I was still reading the series...

I really don't know how you hung in there so long, Mary. I don't like love triangles and that series is up to 19 books with it unresolved. I bailed after the first book.

message 103: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments I read the first 4, decided it couldn't possibly get any better (especially after I called my best friend and she said that it actually turned into a love triangle. GAG ME!), and so I pretend that's the end of the series. I remember Book 4 being REALLY good! Yay for Morelli!

message 104: by Beige (new)

Beige (whatsizname) I couldn't even finish the first book, because I found out about the love triangle(I'm a certified spoiler-addict!!!) and didn't want to waste my time...

Sara, I've also done my fair share of pretend-its-the-end-of-the-series too!!!

message 105: by Sara ♥ (last edited Jan 19, 2013 02:02PM) (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments Haha! For the first 4 books, Ranger is just some random periphery guy, without any substance, so it's easy to just ignore him and pretend it's all about Stephanie and Morelli! ;) And Book 4 ends really well, in a way that you can really convince yourself it's the end of the series! Haha!

The whole idea of the love triangle pisses me off. Love triangles are for teenagers. But with two grown men? What kind of insecure men would those guys have to be to allow themselves to be strung along by such an indecisive woman? And it's not like they don't know about each other... I mean, MAYBE if each book took place in a single day, I could see her not choosing for 19 days, but I'm assuming each one covers at least a week or so. That's at least 5 months! That's just ridiculous. No grown man worth having is gonna put up with that crap! I'm kind of offended for men everywhere.

I just finished putting the final touches on an editorial I wrote on this topic. It will appear on my blog on Monday. Would love for you to drop by and share this point of view!

Mary | 208 comments Girls , I really regret it now, but I've read the first nine books of the series!!! I know that I should have just given up on them from the very first book, but I just kept on going because they were recommended to me by a very trustworthy reader! I still can't understand why she would ever insist on me reading them...

message 110: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments Mary! Life is short! If you don't like them, read something you DO like!

message 111: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
Oh, Mary! Nine books? This is a series where you should know by the end of the second book whether you're going to like it or not. STOP!!

I agree with Sara, time is too precious and reading should bring pleasure. Go, read something you will enjoy.

message 112: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments I'd say Book 3, personally, but yeah!

message 113: by Mary (new)

Mary | 208 comments I know, I know! That's what I did! I returned the books back to my friend and now I'm reading books only when I double-check them with the reviews on GR. And needless to say I haven't read anything else of the same author and I don't think that I will ever do!

message 114: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
Mary, are you talking about THIS series or the Stephanie Plum series?

message 115: by Mary (new)

Mary | 208 comments About the Stephanie Plum series of course!!!!! I would never ever talk like that about the In Death series or Nora Roberts, I love both!

message 116: by Vera (new)

Vera M. | 446 comments I read 2 books of the Stephanie plum series and was bored with it! Couldn't bring myself to pick up more in that series when there are so many other great authors to spend my free time on.

message 117: by Mary (new)

Mary | 208 comments Believe me, Vera, you did great! They weren't worth it...

message 118: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
Whew! I thought you were talking about Eve and Roarke:) Yeah, I read one book and it wasn't my kind of series. Lots of people like the series because it's funny and quirky. I like mysteries to be grittier and edgier so it didn't appeal to me. Plus, can't stand a love triangle.

message 119: by Mary (new)

Mary | 208 comments Yeah with this series(Stephanie Plum series) I found out the same thing about myshelf! I can't stand love triangles either...

message 120: by Vera (new)

Vera M. | 446 comments Yeah I think the in death series just spoils anyone to stephanie plum anyways... In death is funny and quirky but still adds the mystery and suspense a crime novel should!!

message 121: by Mary (new)

Mary | 208 comments You got that right!

I COMPLETELY agree with you!! (And I totally thought you were talking about In Death! I was like, "Book 9 (Loyalty) was AMAZING!!! I can't believe she didn't like it!)

message 123: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
Lol! Glad to see I wasn't alone in this:)

message 124: by Mary (new)

Mary | 208 comments Well, after going back to see which is book 9, I can tell you that there is no way I would say something like this about it, or any other book of the In Death series for that matter! And she we were talking about the Stephanie Plum series, I wouldn't change the topic so abruptly... But anyway I'm glad we've sold this brief misunderstaning. So, we agree that none of us liked Stephanie Plum series andd we all love the In Death.

message 125: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments Agreed.

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 1070 comments Mary wrote: "Girls , I really regret it now, but I've read the first nine books of the series!!! I know that I should have just given up on them from the very first book, but I just kept on going because they w..."

Don't feel bad I stopped at ten and I know I read maybe the 12th or 13th one. The thing is besides the stupid triangle the characters are all stupid. It is so unrealistic. I cannot relate to any of the characters.

I love the indeath characters. They are realistic and lovable. Even Mick in Betrayal. I got really mad at him, but in the end I really loved him.

message 127: by Mary (new)

Mary | 208 comments Thanks! And yeah, I totally agree with you, Dee, on everything!

message 128: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael Question about what book a character appears in: I'm re-reading the series and remember a boy in one of the books named Kevin ... can't remember if he's an orphan to begin with or his parents/guardians are killed but he is adopted at the end ... and can NOT remember the name of the book he appears in.

Anyone recall?

message 129: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments He was found by Eve and Roarke beaten by his mother when they found Jennie dead in Vengeance in Death

message 130: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael Vengeance in Death ... thanks! it was driving me nuts!

message 131: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
We have soooo many In Death savants in this group! It's wonderful.

message 132: by [deleted user] (new)

And don't forget Dopey, Kevin's cat. I think it spoke volumes when he was willing to walk away from his mom, but Dopey had to come too.

message 133: by [deleted user] (new)

Savants! I love it Jonetta!

message 134: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael Which is good! For someone who is not a 'kid person' I've always enjoyed Eve's interactions with children in this series ... it's managed so very well. Kevin was always one of my favorites and it was bugging me that I couldn't remember which book he was in.

The other 'boy character' I liked (and of course can't remember his name at the moment) was the boy that sold Eve mufflers for Christmas presents as he was selling out of a suitcase on the street and took her to meet his grandmother who was raising him.

message 138: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael Jonetta wrote: "Tiko:)"

Right, Tiko.

I always enjoy when characters from previous books appear, even briefly, in later books. Makes it feel more like the characters in the books are living realistic lives and the reader is more involved with the series.

message 139: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments ...and I think we all loved Tiko and his grandmother.

message 140: by [deleted user] (new)

I think its great how much I've learned about the criminal mind, the law process and the other eclectic things that pop up. Like today, with this *$%#@ who has sent letters with ricin in the mail. I know what that is thanks to a nasty little girl who slipped some in a hot chocolate.

message 141: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments Lol. This is true. I have been in law enforcement for 25 years and I have learned a bunch of stuff I didn't know.

message 142: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
That's right! I get so caught up in the Magdelana storyline I sometimes forget about the little bad seed.

message 143: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't know that Dawn. If its not too personal, do you think the bullpen is accurately represented?

message 144: by [deleted user] (new)

Jonetta, I forget about Maggie! Is she Eve says "You were one of many." And then taps her wedding band and says something like "I'm the only"?

message 145: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments Not here in California. While there is an area for detectives it is very different also, I don't know a single lieutenant who has a caseload or is in the field.

message 146: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (wynchs) | 19 comments Hi everyone I have a question. which book is it that Eve has her badges taken from her and she gets suspended?

message 148: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (wynchs) | 19 comments That's the one. thanks going to reread it now love that book and how everyone rallys around Dallas.
