CAYLYN HENSON I start my college algebra class Jan 2 so I'm having to stop reading until it's over so I can study & keep my mind on algebra! Anyone ever have this problem & how'd you make it?!?! Lol

Kate (katesbooknook) Everything in moderation. Every second time you need a break from our studies grab your book and set the alarm clock. That way you get to relax your mind from the algebra, enjoy a little entertainment and be comfortable in the fact that your alarm will prevent you from getting carried away1

Sally (larwos) | 258 comments What a clever suggestion Kate. I'm a terrible bookworm and find myself so caught up in a book I forget the time and even my name.
I've just read Dark Warrior Unbroken by Alexis Morgan and just love it. I just hope she gets around to writing another in the Talion series - the sooner the better.

I can so relate to that. I graduated college last December & my first thought after finishing my last class was now I can read books that I want to read. I always read for about 1/2 hour before bed as a way to relax. I didn't read as much the years that I was in school, but I was still able to read about 20 books per year while maintaining a 3.8 GPA. Plus, when I was feeling overloaded with the topic I was studying, I would take a break & that usually meant reading something other than a textbook.

Amanda Orlich Ahern (kittymeowxcore) | 97 comments Yea, I didn't read a whole lot in college. Well, I still read but not as much as I do now.

I also graduated college in December 2008. People were like "so what are you going to do now!?" My answer? Take the phone off the hook and read. Leave me alone.

I agree with Kate. Make a schedule and include some personal time. I worked 3 different jobs while in college, and I would have exploded if I didn't set aside some "Amanda Time". So set aside some "Caylyn Time" and stick to it. I took a novel to school and found a nice corner in the cafeteria and gave myself an hour to relax.

Another good suggestion. Remember that in college you are really in charge of your own schedule. I actually scheduled two of my classes 2 hours apart one semester so I'd have time to get some coffee and read.

Of course, remember that your studies should come first. If you need more time to study, make sure that comes first. That was my big problem :( I majored in History, and found that my historical romance novels were way more exciting than the history books assigned. >.<

My sister is starting college algebra this coming Spring, too. Good luck!

Jesse (Jessep) | 119 comments You should definitely not have to give up reading completely because of class, but I understand that a very stressful amount of work-load will take away from your personal time. In order to keep your sanity though, I agree that you should make a little bit of time for yourself and your reading.

What I would do, is reserve at least 15-20 minutes of reading time before going to bed...Or, what I do when my life gets really busy is read for about 20-30 minutes in the morning over breakfast. It's a great way to start my day on a relaxing note. I get grumpy when I don't get my reading time in. Another great time is over lunch if you can do that.

My husband is working on his masters and he doesn't have much time to read for pleasure so he reads for about 15min. before bed. It takes a lot longer to get through a book, but, you don't have to give it up completely! Best of luck with your class!

CAYLYN HENSON Thanks everyone! I Prob should have mentioned that this is my fourth attempt and that's why I have to be completely focused. First attempt was right out of high school and my parents made me go to college and I didn't really care. Second I had my daughter halfway through and had to have an incomplete. Third I took online and the teacher didn't help at all just yes and no answers to my questions. I stUdied constantly with that too bit still wasn't good enough. So this time I'm in class paid 700 dollars & hopefully wil pass!!!!

MsBeaglely | 118 comments Well, if you put your mind to it & you really want it you'll do fine. I had a couple of false starts when I started college. I waited 7 years after high school to go back to school because I hated high school. I'm not a bog fan of online classes. I had to take one of my statistics classes online with a teacher who had terrible grammer. I'm not a big fan of online math classes because there are times you need to interact with the teacher to understand what is being taught. Good luck & hopfully the fourth time will be the charm.

--I would read before bedtime, and I took most Friday nights off to read or relax. Don't forsake the things that make you happy. I agree with Kate, do give yourself some downtime. You will be recharged for class when you do that.
